Back and better than ever!
Music-artist nobody likes you pat has always had a spot on our favorite music playlists. And judging by the over 5 Million streams on his music, he’s on yours too. He is gearing up to release a new EP titled ‘dear…’, in September.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Pat about one of his favorite lyrics from the EP, advice for aspiring singers/songwriters, and more!
How old were you when you began your career in music?
P: “I started my first band with a friend from church when I was 13 or 14. I don’t think we ever played a show, and he quit the band because it was “too stressful,” which is really funny for a couple of new teenagers who barely had anything going on. But that endeavor began in me a love of telling stories through songs, and that hasn’t changed.“
Tell us more about your EP ‘dear…’?
P: “I prefer to create full projects vs. individual songs. So, I went into this EP with the intention of forming each song around the simple concept of “love letters.” Love is not just romance. Love is bearing burdens. Love is mercy. Love is fatherly or motherly. Love is childlike. Love is resting. Love is friendship.“
What is your overall hope for this EP?
P: “I have started writing music more in service of others. And the best way to do that is to tell my story honestly and openly. I think transparency is how we truly connect with other people on a full, human level. And I’m confident if I share my life with others, that will have an effect on theirs.“
How does ‘dear god’ fit into the new EP?
P: “My faith is the foundational cornerstone of my life. I’m not “Patrick Kiloran” without God. I hadn’t written too intently about that in many previous songs. I felt like it was important to include that in a group of songs about different relationships, since my relationship with God is at the forefront of my existence.“
If you could describe the EP in one word, what would it be?
P: “Holistic.
How does your music reflect your personal life & experiences?
P: “I’m not sure how to write my own music without reflecting my reality. Maybe some people can, and that’s great. But if I’m writing a song that I’m planning to release under my name, I don’t see any reason it shouldn’t sound or feel like me and my actual day-to-day experiences. That’s one thing people who listen to my songs tell me quite often — that they can hear my heart and life in the music and lyrics.“
What do your different relationships mean to you?
P: “Humans aren’t meant to live in a vacuum. We’re not meant to be lone wolves. One of my favorite lyrics on this EP is, “You can’t really know yourself til someone knows you more.” We can’t fully understand ourselves or, frankly, even function as proper humans, unless we have community around us. Human beings are meant to love one another.”
What is some advice for singer/songwriters?
P: “The older I get and the longer I work in this career, all I can say is: write something that matters, write something you will still love in 10 years, use your songs to serve other people, and just try your best to enjoy the fact that you have the opportunity to create emotions for people out of thin air. It’s a beautiful thing.“
