He deserves a spot on your favorite playlist!
Rising music artist Wingtip is known for his amazing voice and his relatable lyrics. Not only did he just release a new single ‘Talk’ today, but he is also gearing up to release an EP.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Wingtip about his favorite song he has released so far, Kacey Musgraves, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
W: “When I was maybe 13 or 14, I got the chance to play a few covers in the school gym for some fundraiser for my school. There were about 4 people there, two of whom were my parents, but I remember the feeling the moment I got off the ‘stage’ of just needing to do that again as soon as possible. I didn’t know that meant I wanted to do it professionally, but I just knew that I wanted to do it more than anything else.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Talk’.
W: “Talk is a song about wishing someone would say what they mean, but knowing they won’t. It was written during a difficult time with an ex where we would get on the phone to have these conversations and then just beat around the bush for a while before hanging up. It’s an angry song, so I tried to soften it a bit by making the instrumental upbeat and kind of fun.”
What is your songwriting process usually like?
W: “It usually starts with a melody I’ll be humming or have stuck in my head and I’ll record that quickly for later. Then, I’ll try putting some chords to it and see what words fit. From there, it’s sort of a process of interpretation: what am I thinking about that day? What am I worried about, what am I angry about, what am I excited about?”
If you had to choose, what has been your favorite song you have released so far, and why?
W: “It’s really hard to choose (they’re all my babies) but my most recent single “Down” with Bre Kennedy was one I was really happy with in both the production and the writing. It just really articulated something I wanted to say.”
You have well over 50 Million streams on Spotify! What has been your reaction to your success?
W: “It’s pretty surreal! It’s easy to look at those numbers and forget that a real live person is behind each one, so I try to practice gratitude each day for them and recognize and thank them when I play shows. I try not to fixate too much on the numbers because they’re so abstract and fickle, but it’s very cool.”
If you could collab on a single with any artist, who would it be and why?
W: “The first that comes to mind is Kacey Musgraves, I’m not sure why; I just think she has such an amazing sense of lyricism and storytelling and I would love to even just talk to her about her process and philosophy, let alone write something with her.”
We hear that you are releasing an EP soon! Can you tease what fans can expect from ‘Get Well Soon’?
W: “It’s a few songs they’ve already heard, plus “Talk” and a very very special one with someone who’s getting a loooot of attention right now! I’m very excited.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
W: “Social media and elsewhere! @Wingtipmusic.”
Make sure to stream ‘Talk’, available now on all music platforms!
