This young actor is making a great addition to Hollywood!
From Hulu’s ‘How I Met Your Father’ to NBC’s ‘Night Court’, Kayden is constantly on our screens. Now, he’s about to take on a role in the upcoming Netflix film ‘Rebel Moon’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Kayden about Dungeons and Dragons, LGBTQIA+ representation in the entertainment industry, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in acting?
K: “I’ve always known that I wanted to be an actor and performer. When I was about four years old, I was watching a commercial with a child in it and I asked my mom if that was a real kid. She said yes, and I couldn’t believe it! I said to myself, “Kids can do that? That’s what I want to do!” Then not long after that, we saw a musical at my favorite theater that also had a kid in it. As we were walking out, I told my mom that I was going to be an actor and that I would be on that stage one day. And a few years later, I was! My mom and dad also tell me that even at two and three years old, I was performing and putting on shows for them.”
Tell us more about your upcoming role in ‘Rebel Moon’.
K: “I had a small role in a huge universe that Zack Snyder created! Unfortunately, I can’t reveal too much, but I can say that it was an experience of a lifetime, and working with Zack was amazing! The sets were larger than life, and the actors were incredible. I can’t wait for everyone to see it when it comes out.”
Now that you are a part of the Netflix family, do you have any favorite Netflix movies or tv shows?
K: “Rebel Moon was actually my third project with Netflix, but I love exploring new shows and watching all types of movies. Right now, I’m obsessed with The Good Place, which is streaming on Netflix. I also love Lucifer, Moxie, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Never Have I Ever, The Circle, and Julie and the Phantoms. During the pandemic, I watched almost all the cooking and baking shows on there too.”
You have worked with some amazing stars! Who would you love to work with next?
K: “Oh my gosh, I feel so lucky to have worked with so many amazing actors! I’ve learned from every single one of them. As a musical theater kid, though, I would LOVE to work with Zendaya, Dove Cameron, Ariana Grande, Cheyenne Jackson, Skylar Astin, Hugh Jackman, and of course, Neil Patrick Harris. Also,
as a huge Marvel nerd, I would love to work with anyone from the MCU. I could probably go on and on with actors I want to work with.”
Speaking of stars, have you ever been starstruck before?
K: “I guess I’ve never really been starstruck, but I do get VERY excited to work with certain actors, especially if I already know a lot about their work. I see them as regular people doing the same job as me, but I also try to learn from them because they are so talented and successful! On set, we are working together, so I have to connect with them as people. It’s my favorite part of acting – getting to know new people, seeing these amazing actors at work, and sharing an acting experience with them.”
How important do you think LGBTQIA+ representation is in the entertainment industry?
K: “Representation is SO important! Kids, especially, want to connect with people who are like them. I am a huge ally, so I just think everyone should be themselves regardless of what society says, and that should be shown in all media. There are so many different types of people with different likes and preferences. No one type of person is better than another.”
When you aren’t acting, what are some of your favorite things to do?
K: “I love playing Dungeons and Dragons! I have a weekly meet-up group, and I’m also training myself to be a Dungeon Master. I just love creating these crazy scenarios and characters. I also have an amazing friend group that I love hanging out with. I really enjoy school, especially math, soccer, and chess. When I’m not acting, I’m just a regular kid doing kid things, where I love playing video games. I also enjoy family game nights.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
K: “My mom helps me run my Instagram account so that I can post about my upcoming projects and my acting journey. You can find me on Instagram at @kaydenkoshelev_official. I try to post regularly so people can keep up with any news and announcements.”
