This music artist should be on your playlist!
Known for ‘Just Because’ and ‘How you like me now’, Emika Love is back and better than ever. Today, she released a new single titled ‘Bad Day Not Life’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Emika about Taylor Swift, upcoming music projects this year, and more!
What inspired you to become a musician?
E: “What inspired me to become a musician is actually the project part and the healing part. There are so many components when it comes to music. You have the creative directing, the writing, the clothes, the props, the ideas, the melodies, and just so many things that I love to do. Being able to be blessed with doing music helps me express all of those in one. Then of course the way it helps me release what’s on my mind.”
Thus far, what’s a favorite memory or something quirky that’s taken place (in-studio, onstage, or elsewhere)?
E: “I got stuck in a rut so I had to make things happen. I didn’t realize they charged so much for luggage these days and I had an important flight to get on, so I had to think fast. So then I emptied out my suitcases and started layering my clothes, putting one outfit on top of the other and stuffing my pants in places until my suitcase was empty and got on the plane. So picture…. a blow-up character on the plane.”
What message do you hope fans get from your music?
E: “The message I hope fans get from my music is really just focusing on what’s good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have. Also, to feel empowerment within ourselves which feeds off to wanting to help others.”
Who would you choose if you could have a musician tag along with you on tour for one month?
E: “Taylor Swift.”
What is the story behind your song “Bad Day Not Life”?
E: “The song “Bad Day Not Life” came upon a series of bad days I had. When it was raining it was pouring and I would tell myself “It’s just a bad day not life Emika, just a bad day.” When you have a bad day you just feel like you’re in a hamster wheel and you just keep spinning but not getting anywhere. Sometimes you just are like, “Why right now? Why me?” but you have to remember what is meant for you is for you. You’re supposed to go through bad days and you have to keep telling yourself everything is okay. So basically this saying helped me, so I wanted to make it into a song so anyone else having a bad day can put this song on and feel comfort that it will be okay. You can get through everything and remember it’s just a “Bad Day Not Life.”
What was the first concert you ever attended, and who did you see?
E: “The first concert I ever attended was Zendaya around Christmas time.”
Can we expect to see new music from you in the future?
E: “Yes, definitely. Just within this year I have 4 more projects dropping.”
Where can we follow your incredible journey?
E: “You can follow my journey on Instagram and Twitter @eemikalove, TikTok @emikalovee on
Facebook and all music platforms, and YouTube @Emika Love.”
