Caleb Hearn fans: listen up!
With over 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, this isn’t the first time you’ve heard of this music artist. Today, he is back with a brand new EP titled ‘1200 sq ft’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Caleb about working with Marc Scibilia, ‘½ as good as her‘, and more!
Today you released your 1200 sq ft EP, which features the new title-track single and its music video out on the same day. Why did you want to post the music video and title track on the same day as the EP’s release?
C: “The “1200 sq ft” music video is a part of the song in my opinion. You don’t really have one without the other. I want everyone to have both in their hands at the same time and I want the story to be told visually as well as audibly.”
How many songs are on the EP and how do the tracks tie into the overall themes of the EP?
C: “There are 4 songs on the EP in total. Every song tells a story about something that is true to my life/situation that I find myself in today. An overall theme for this EP is my upbringing/childhood. From my parents divorce, to losing a close friend, there were a lot of tragic events that took place when I was younger that I feel like I’m still unpacking today.”
What was the inspiration behind the EP?
C: “It originally started with “½ as good as her” which is a song I wrote about my nana who is battling terminal cancer right now. Writing that song put me in a nostalgic headspace where the other songs kind’ve emerged from there. I spent a lot of time thinking about my childhood and where I come from while writing this EP.”
You have collaborated with Marc Scibilia (Quinn XCII, Lennon Stella) as a producer and co-writer on the song and formed a special bond. What would you describe your bond/friendship?
C: “Marc is incredible. We wrote “1200 sq ft” together on our first meeting. So to say things got rolling off the bat would be an understatement. We clicked extremely well from the jump. We have a lot more in the works and I’m super excited to have him involved! He’s honestly one of the most talented people I’ve ever worked with.”
How many songs did you co-write/produce?
C: “Every song on the EP, I wrote myself with one or two other writers per song. I’ve never released a song that I wasn’t involved in the writing process for. I think that the most fun part about this for me is the writing. As far as production goes, that’s not really my lane! I love helping out with ideas and such but putting it all together is a skill I don’t have at the moment, haha!”
Does every song have a different story?
C: “Yes, every song has an original outlook on a time in my life. There are similarities in some of the stories I tell just because the songs all come from a memory in my childhood.”
What is your goal for this EP when it comes out?
C: “My biggest goal is that this EP is heard. I don’t necessarily care as much about the amount of attention it gets, but my dream is for it to not only be consumed but for people to connect and relate with it. I’d rather have 10 people listen and have an impact on them, than a million just passively listening.”
Do you have any upcoming music/projects?
C: “I can’t say too much about that, but I definitely am working on a project right now. I think this is going to end up being one of my most consistent years releasing music that I’ve ever had.”
