A singer you need to know!
With over 10 Million streams on just Spotify alone, Olive Klug is definitely an artist on your favorite playlist. Recently, they released a new single ‘Casting Spells’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Olive about touring, their upcoming singles, and more!
Recently, you came out with a single called “Casting Spells” which is part of your debut album “Don’t You Dare Make Me Jaded out” which is coming out in August! Why did you release “Casting Spells” as the announcement song of the album?
O: “I announced the album with this song because the album title is actually a quote from “casting spells”! In the second chorus, I say “some of this magic has faded, but don’t you dare make me jaded”. The song is about rediscovering my childlike sense of wonder in the context of the autonomy of adulthood. As you grow up and become more worldly, especially in today’s climate, it can be difficult to maintain joy and excitement for life. The song tries to reframe adulthood from the perspective of my child self. Rather than prioritizing productivity and lamenting my responsibilities, I try to recognize how beautiful it is that I am able to make all my own decisions, write my own rules, and live out my “wildest dreams”.”
What is the album about?
O: “It’s about the second adolescence we experience in our early 20’s, when many of us permanently move away from home and have the freedom to make all our own decisions. It’s about allowing joy and community to persevere in a world that can feel scary and threatening. It’s about reflecting on past relationships, how they’ve shaped us, and learning how to accept these endings and move forward.”
What is your favorite song on the album?
O: “It’s so hard to pick a favorite song! I think nearly impossible to decide, actually. But I think the two songs that sum up the theme of the album best are Out of Line and Casting Spells.”
You just kicked off a tour supporting Daisy the Great on their All You Need Is Time tour. What are your emotions going on tour with Daisy the Great?
O: “I’m super excited! I love touring, and I’m a lot less nervous this time because I have more experience performing. Ready to enjoy the ride!”
Is this your first time touring?
O: “Nope! I have a lot of touring experience and try to play shows as often as possible. Even though I just started touring in March 2022, I haven’t really stopped touring for too long since then.”
What show are you looking forward to doing on the tour?
O: “I always have the best fans in Seattle, and I’m really excited to return and see some familiar faces!”
What do you want people to take away from your music?
O: “I joke a lot that I hope my music makes people cry! Obviously I don’t want to make people sad, but I feel successful when I’m able to help people access emotions they weren’t previously able to access. I’ve also heard a lot of people say that my music allows them to reconnect with their inner child and I think that’s beautiful!”
Do you have any upcoming projects/music?
O: “I’ll be releasing 2 more singles before the full release of the album in August!”
