A group that is making hits!
After releasing an amazing self-titled EP, music group Juniper Honey has proved their spot in the music industry. Now, they are back with a new single ‘Stone Me’. And spoiler alert: It’s a bop.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Jake from the group about San Luis Obispo, and more!
When did you guys first realize that you wanted to pursue a music career together?
J: “Well, me (Jake) and Donovan have been playing together for many years now and have always
wanted to pursue music, and Cason and Josh were both in other bands and had already kinda been pursuing music strongly in their own ways, so when they joined with me and Don it was already clear that we all had the same goal of pursuing music, which felt really special.”
How did you guys come up with your stage name Juniper Honey?
J: “Actually, it’s pretty simple, Cason’s younger cousin’s name is actually Juniper Honey, and we all
thought it made for a great band name as well!”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Stone Me’.
J: “I wrote “Stone Me” a bit ago sitting in my dorm room on a super stormy night, and it was just one of those songs that a writer gets every so often when everything kind of just flows together and the writing process happens way faster than usual, which is always a good feeling. Then a few months later I finished putting it together with the guys and we took it into the studio with our producer Stefan Mac and just had an absolute blast with him working on it! We were super stoked to be in the studio because we previously have just done homemade material, so it was extra special for us.”
Who are your biggest music influences?
J: “The Beatles, of course, but I am also very inspired by many other artists such as James Taylor, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Wilco, Beck and a ton of others.”
We absolutely love your merch! If you had to choose, what is your favorite product?
J: “Thank you so much! If I had to choose my favorite, I might say the hats just because it’s the newest product we have dropped!”
How would you personally describe the music scene in San Luis Obispo?
J: “The music scene in San Luis Obispo is spectacular and we are starting to fit in very well! From DIY venues to bigger venues like SLO Brew Rock, there’s always a place to throw a show. The people in SLO are also very drawn to live music and our very first show brought in a lot of people.”
Can we expect more music from you guys this year?
J: “Yes! We recorded 4 songs when we did “Stone” Me so we will for sure have some more songs dropping very soon after this.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
J: “Instagram, or any social media really @juniperhoneymusic is a great way! Or at any of our shows, or any music streaming platform! Thank you so much!”
