This singer-songwriter is incredible!
Canadian music artist Biffy Raffoul has been consistently releasing hits, including ‘Easy Tiger’ and ‘I’m Not A Saint’. He recently released a new EP entitled ‘I Wish You Were Here’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Billy about touring with the American Authors, his dream collab, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
B: “I would definitely say my family was always musical. It was kind of unavoidable. Music constantly playing throughout the house and instruments everywhere. I loved hockey as a young kid. I don’t think I thought seriously about pursuing a career in music until I was 14.”
Tell us more about your amazing new EP ‘I Wish You Were Here’.
B: “Thank you for the kind words. The songs were all inspired by different things. A couple of them from movies, one from some of my favorite rock and roll records, and another from the actual practice of songwriting and how it has changed for me over the years.”
If you had to choose, what is your favorite song off of the EP?
B: “I have different favorites at different times. “Alligator” has been a favorite to perform live with the band. “Jim Carrey” has one of those riffs I find myself playing whenever I’m alone and I pick up an acoustic guitar.”
You recently went on tour with the American Authors! Were you a fan of the group before going on tour with them?
B: “I love those guys. I’ve been a fan and friend of the American Authors for quite some time now but being able to share the stage with them on a tour like that was something really special. We’ve put out some music together in the past… I hope there is more of that in the future. This was like my 8 th or 9 th tour in the Jetta or “Jenny the Jett” (a name she’s definitely earned). She got us through another coast-to-coast tour and is currently parked in our driveway in Toronto. Unfortunately, her time is nearly up and we
are car shopping.”
If you could collab with any music artist, who would it be and why?
B: “Hmmm, a band that pops into my mind immediately is Arkells. Been such a fan of theirs for so long and I love their live show. I think we’d make a rock and roll record!”
You are constantly performing! What do you love the most about performing live?
B: “Playing live gives a new life to these songs that have been recorded and I love that. You don’t know what song is going to feel most special to what audience and you’re trying to create that moment every night. I think in the last two months I’ve played 35 shows which feels incredible. I don’t think that’s the longest, but it feels good to be steadily performing.”
You have over 1 Million monthly listeners on Spotify! What has been your reaction to your success?
B: “I try not to equate numbers to success, but it feels good knowing that the songs are reaching people from different parts of the world! It’s always been about writing and producing the best record we can, that’s all we’re focused on with every new release. More music and more shows… Very soon!“
