Actor Zack Brooks Talks About His Upcoming Role In ‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret’

He is about to star in a movie you do not want to miss!

Known for his recent role in the Paramount+ series ‘Tulsa King’, Zack Brooks is about to star in the highly-anticipated film ‘Are You There God? It’s Me Maragraet’, based off of the iconic book of the same name by Judy Blume.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Zack about reading the book, Robert Downey Jr., and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in acting? 

Z: “When I was about 12 years old,  I remember watching my mom do self tape auditions, she is an actress and I always loved watching her film her auditions at home. I thought, “this could be something I could do,”  it looked like fun because I love playing the “make believe” in my heads when I was younger. I then told my mom my interested and she started me off with modeling, classes and commercials, I was hooked!“

Do you think you have anything in common with your character Philip Leroy?

Z: “Yes! I really think  I do, at least in some capacity. For one,  he’s very outgoing and is always laughing, getting into trouble with his best friend Freddy, who is played by Jecobi Swain. I tend to relate to his outgoingness and laughter, the light hearted part of Philip I can relate to.  The girls are crazy over Philip, but I haven’t noticed that in my real life yet, haha!”

Have you read the book ‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret’? If so what do you think of it?

Z: “Oh yes!  I have actually read it twice! It’s so great and it really helped me understand what girls at that age go through. It’s an amazing story and a really good book for this generation! I love Judy Blume!  Just glad its finally coming to the big screen.”

Do you have any current favorite books?

Z: “Sadly, I hate to say this, but I don’t read a lot at the moment…I know I know, its awful, I need to get better at it, but I do have my favorites which I have read. The book I love the most is,  The Alchemist. The Alchemist is a story about a boy named Santiago who is on a journey seeking treasure in the Egyptian pyramids after having a dream about it. On the way he meets mentors, falls in love, and most importantly, learns the true importance of who he is and how to improve himself! It really moved me.”

You also starred in the popular Paramount plus show ‘Tulsa King’. What has the experience been like for you?

Z: “It was an amazing experience! Just getting to work with Sylvester Stallone and Max Casella on a show that is created by Taylor Sheridan and Terrence Winter was truly a dream come true,  I treasured the experience of working with my idols! Not sure where my character is going to go in the series, but the experience alone was incredible!“

Any fellow actor you would love to do a movie with?

Z: “Oh there’s so many! Robert Downey Jr. has always been THE ONE! My dream is to work with him because he is so talented, funny and cool, just  an amazing talent- I know I would learn so much from him.”
