You are the Host of Amanda’s World Podcast! Can you tell us more about that?
A: “I started my social media career at the age of 12 in middle school by daily vlogging on Instagram off of a friend’s cell phone, because I didn’t have a cell phone at the time. I was known as the Instagram kid at school. From there, I started to learn more about Instagram and eventually got my own cell phone and Instagram vlogging all through seventh grade and most of eighth grade. Eventually, I decided I had to try something different because I was going to the high school and made the account my Finsta. I tried out Tik Tok, had a few videos blow up, but that account unfortunately got banned. But one day it all happened. It was the beginning of 2021 and at the time I was interviewing random strangers off the Internet. Someone messaged me and said that I should start a podcast.
I decided I didn’t wanna go back on YouTube cause I used to do that too, but I decided to use the app called Anchor. From there, I uploaded my trailer and the rest is history after I uploaded my first podcast with Ireland Bennett.
My first podcast end up doing so well I kept going, and by the end of my first season I had over 1000 listeners. Now I have over 15,000 listeners. My podcast has been played in all 50 states. I was only 16 at the time and had absolutely no experience and just kept going and learn how to do everything myself. Because of that, I’ve been able to work with brand such as Barstool Sports., MTV, Young Hollywood, etc. I’ve been able to interview names such as Jessica from Overtime, Alex Bennett from Barstool Sports, Morgan Evans from Teen Wolf and etc. So I kept my podcast going, and got to take my school’s media class which was super sick. I was able to influence kids to do a podcast and now have influenced kids at my high school to run a podcast after my article came out talking about my podcast from my school. Therefore, I was able to start the Northport High School podcast.”
Who has been your favorite guest so far?
A: “One of my favorite guests that I have had on would probably have to be Morgan Evans from Teen Wolf. I got to talk to him all about Teen Wolf and it was like one of my favorite interviews I’ve ever done. Another one that I really enjoyed was interviewing Wendelin, the author of Flipped. I’ve read that book over 100,000 times, so it was really cool to get to meet her.”
Are you going to pursue Journalism in the future?
A: “Yes I’m gonna be going to school for Broadcast Communications media in Fall 2023. I’m gonna be attending Oswego.”
Who is your dream guest?
A: “My dream guess would have to probably be Ian Somerhalder. I’m a huge vampire diaries fan and that’s one of my guest is that I really want to have on.”
How do you prepare for an interview?
A: “I’m the only one doing the interview. I don’t prepare at all I just wing it. I like to just ask random questions that comes to my head when I’m doing the interview and if I’m being interviewed by somebody else, same thing. I am just talking and that’s how I feel my best work happens.”
What is the hardest part about being a Journalist?
A: “My age. People like to look down at me because of my age. I have been doing this since I’m 16, now I’m 18, and people still give me a hard time about doing what I’m doing because of my age.”
Do you have any mentors/idols?
A: “Joely Live from Young Hollywood does exactly what I’m doing and is absolutely killing the game. She’s absolutely amazing. She went to the same college I’m going to for the same degree and I look up to her a hundred percent with this type of work I’m doing.”
