Singer-Songwriter BENTLE is just getting started. Today, he released a brand-new single entitled ‘Sideshow’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with BENTLE about his songwriting process, an artist he would love to work with, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
B: “I first realized I wanted to pursue a career in music when I was in high school. It dawned on me that everyone is trying to express something and music is my vessel.”
How did you come up with your stage name ‘BENTLE’?
B: “The word “BENTLE” was written on the pavement up the street from my place in Brisbane, Australia. I used to walk past it everyday on my way to the train. Eventually I couldn’t get it out of my mind! It really encompasses everything about the beginning of BENTLE.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Sideshow’.
B: “Sideshow” is an anecdote about two humans drifting apart — the fractured communications, the blurry lines between inevitability and control, and the romance of the situation smothering true feelings. I have a little podcast that will be out soon which will unpack all of the intricacies of the song too!”
What is your songwriting process usually like?
B: “I start with a thought, maybe more of an observation, and work up from that theme. Often lyrics flow next. I record and produce my music in my NYC studio which is filled with vintage equipment and things I’ve collected like old postcards and photographs. My studio really creates a unique environment for the BENTLE sound to blossom.”
How would you personally describe the New York music scene?
B: “I’m from Australia originally and the Australian music scene definitely has more similarities with the LA scene — the sun, surf, and a more glistening sound. My observation since moving to New York is that the music scene is much grungier, and that emanates from the culture and people here. There’s a real hunger (almost pride) in discovering new music and supporting artists and bands that are putting in shifts around the NYC scene.”
If you could collaborate on a song with any artist, who would you choose and why?
B: “Without getting too ahead of myself, I’d love to link up with Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz etc.).”
Can we expect more new music from you in the near future?
B: “I have an EP coming out in a couple of months which I am super excited about — there’s so much wrapped up into it and I’ll be releasing some secret interactive content to go with it and breaking down some of the tracks on my podcast. Can’t wait for you to hear, see and feel it!”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
B: “Instagram and YouTube are my go-to platforms at the moment! You can follow along here:“
