A country artist you need to know!
With a fanbase growing every day, and hit singles like ‘Bad for You’ and ‘Lovin’ You’, Molly Lovette’s music is a playlist must-have. Today, she released a brand-new single ‘Better Than You’. And spoiler alert: it’s a bop!
We had the amazing honor of talking with Molly about ‘The Hangover Series’, songwriting, and more!
Tell us more about your journey from basketball to now pursuing your music career?
M: “It has been quite a journey! Growing up I always had two loves: basketball and music. For a while I thought that I would play college ball and then go on to coach, but my plans changed after an injury in 2014. I found out that I had a bone tumor in my femur, and after being out of basketball for 11 months, my passion for music ignited. It was during those 11 months that I learned to play guitar, began writing consistently and decided that music was what I wanted to do with my life.”
What’s the meaning behind your amazing new single ‘Better Than You’?
M: “Better Than You” is an ode to my sassy side! I was going through a “situationship” of sorts, and was feeling down about the way things were going, until I realized that I could do so much “better than” this person. I brought all of the emotions I was feeling into the write I had scheduled and “Better Than You” came to life.”
You also are an avid songwriter! What is your favorite part of the songwriting process?
M: “My favorite part is getting to share pieces of your personal story with others and getting to really connect with your co-writers in that way. We always say songwriting is a bit of therapy, and getting to express yourself in such a creative way with some incredible minds in the room is really special.”
We have to talk about ‘The Hangover Series’! What inspired you to start it?
M: “Yes! I knew I wanted to do something extra fun with my song “Birthday Hangover” since it’s such a party song. I figured with the line “Here’s to a headache in the morning” it’d be so cool to make drinks with my friends, co-writers, etc., to showcase our favorite drinks that might be worth that headache in the morning. It’s been so much fun and I’m excited to keep it going in 2023.”
You have a lot of performances lined up! What do you enjoy the most when performing on stage?
M: “Getting to play with my band is such a blast! When you get to make music with people you really vibe with, it’s magical. My favorite part though is getting to connect with the crowds. Watching people have a good time dancing and singing along is just the best feeling.”
What advice can you give to young girls who want to also pursue a music career?
M: “I would tell them to write, practice, perform, collaborate as much as they can especially while
they’re young. When you figure out that music is what you want to do at a young age, you’ve
got a bit of a head start. So definitely take advantage of it and hone your craft!”
What are some of your New Year’s Resolutions for this year?
M: “Write more songs solo this year (I’ve gotten so used to co-writing that I need to remember to take some time to write alone as well!), cook more, and maybe shop a little less. LOL.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
M: “You can follow me on all the social media platforms @mollylovette, my website with all my tour dates is mollylovette.com, and my music is on all streaming platforms. I hope you’ll come on the journey with me!”
