An icon in the making!
LGTBQ+ artist Chris Pierce is making his mark in a big way! With almost 1 Million streams on just Spotify alone, he’s back with a brand new single ‘That One’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Chris about his New Year’s Resolutions, his debut album, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
C: “I’ve wanted to do this for a very long time. The furthest I can remember from the past is when I was in 4th grade and my teacher used to ask me what I wanted to be and my answer was always “I wanna be famous,” and the only thing at the time I knew how to do that could make me famous was singing. I grew up seeing and listening to Destiny’s Child, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Jennier Hudson, Fantasia, Usher, just people who were famous vocalists and I always thought I can sooooo do that so I really just aspired to be just like them as a kid. What’s so crazy though is my family didn’t listen to pop music, both heavy R&B, Rap and Gospel lovers spit out a gay popstar. I mean honestly lucky them.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘That One’.
C: ‘That One’ is my 7th single from my debut album which…. is coming soon! It’s a song about the Queer Love experience, how it’s common that someone just seems so right and so perfect and you think you’ve found That One, I’m talking you’re imagining the reception of your marriage with this person but… on the other hand you may have not. You’re in that talking stage. From my perspective It’s really just like my other song ‘Love Can Wait’, me being optimistic about my future boo because I still in my 23 years haven’t had a boyfriend or this ‘talking stage’ people talk about.’
Last year, you performed at the 2022 Sunfest! What was that experience like for you?
C: “It was honestly like living in one big movie scene. Things were amazing when they contacted me twice, First to perform for 30 minutes then called me the same week and asked me to do an hour long set. It was my first ever performance and at the beginning It was a complete nightmare. My car got scratched really badly, It started raining right before my set, I was completely losing my mind but the show must go on. I started performing to a small amount of people at first then I blacked out and I looked up to wayyyy more people than I started with. I ran into Adam Lambert and we had a brief interaction. Got put into a magazine because of my performance & met some fans for the first time. I feel like I didn’t get to put on the show I wanted to but I know that chance is coming. After I got off the stage and Adam had gone and Lil Wayne had gone and everything was being closed down I was approached by so many staff letting me know I was the highlight of this year’s Sunfest.”
You started your music career back in 2019. How do you think you’ve grown as an artist and as a person from then to now?
C: “I was soooo depressed back in 2019. I was in the middle of my second year of college, working overnight to pay for it & music, not to mention walking to and from work. It was a horrible time. You can hear the difference in the person I was back then to now because I started to sing about how much happier I was.
I don’t know, it was like once I started to pursue the thing I really wanted to do for the rest of my life I got so much happier and kinda saw the goodness of life. My goal has also changed, It started out being the glitz and glamor and fame that I wanted but after seeing the effect I’ve had on not just people my age but kids, I wanna be an inspiration and change the world most importantly for the LGBTQ+ community.”
If you could collab on a single with any music artist, who would it be and why?
C: “I honestly have like the biggest list of people like Beyonce, Bree Runway, Doja Cat, Ice Spice, Lil Nas X, Ariana Grande, Chloe & Halle, I mean honestly I could go on and on but if I had to only pick one right now it would be Doja Cat. Doja is probably my biggest inspiration at this moment. She can dance, sing, act, she’s just simply an amazing performer and you don’t see many of those around these days. Her music is really freaking good, & I was definitely one of the reasons Planet Her continued to chart cause I was, and still am obsessed. Did you see her at Fashion Week? My god.”
How would you describe the music scene in Georgia?
C: “Right now I’m in an area where people predominantly rap and do punk rock music. It was kinda the same when I was in Florida too, It seems like everywhere I go the odds are so against me and I have to work 10000% harder to maneuver around and spread these Pop Tunes I make. But, I’ve found a scene I never thought I’d like. I go to punk rock shows to see my friends perform and it’s pretty cool. Who knows I might have to make some rock and roll music.”
What are some of your New Year’s Resolutions for this year?
C: “I honestly want to be a lot more confident in myself. It can be very scary and sometimes take a bad toll on me being Independent and seeing my monthly listeners start to fall and I’m doing everything I can to prevent it. But I do have an incredibly huge amount of trust in myself in pursuing my dreams and believe that everything that’s happening is for a reason. I also wanna travel more which I’ll have the opportunity to do really soon, can’t say much but really soon.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
C: “You can find me on just about any social media under the username ‘@partsofchris” Or just search up Chris Pierce on any streaming service to find my music. However, there is another Chris Pierce so you may run into him on your way, I’m just the gay one.”
