An artist to know!
From dancing to singing, LEXXE is such a talented music artist. And today, she’s back with a brand new single, and accompanying dance video, for ‘X’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with LEXXE about her recent single “I like when you wear your hair down”, her music genre, and more!
How did you get your start in the music industry?
L: “I was in the dance conservatory at SUNY Purchase and met musicians in the music conservatory that used my voice on some demos for homework. I had always sang and written poetry alone but never put that into a studio. It spiraled from there!”
What inspired your song “I like when you wear your hair down”?
L: “That song was initially inspired by watching my girlfriend shoot a music video for her song “Stay Where You Are” and I wrote a voice note with that chorus in it. You can actually hear it at the end of the song! It evolved into this love song to someone who has a hard time letting their guard down. It’s a song for the type A people we love in our lives that need encouragement to ‘let their hair down,’ so to speak.”
How would you describe the genre of music that you specialize in?
L: “I would describe it as synthy, anthemic dark-pop.”
What inspired you when writing your newest single, “X”?
L: “X” is about grappling with loss and trying to make sense of the ‘other side,’ so to speak. It’s inspired by an encounter in which I saw a vision of my late father in the front row at one of my performances. From that, a really amazing cry-on-the-dance-floor song emerged.”
Who is your biggest inspiration?
L: “My mama and my grandma! My mom has made my dreams real and has believed in me no matter what! Both my mom and my grandma are amazing matriarchs that have been through so much yet always make time for others. My mom drove me to ballet every single day for about an hour both ways for 11 years. I don’t know how she did it but without her I wouldn’t be myself or have the tools and skills to make it in this world. We didn’t have much money so she traded her time in the office at my dance school for my tuition. She’s a boss and I love her. I showed them both my first ever songs on guitar when I started thinking I would switch my sights from dance to music and they didn’t bat an eye, they just asked if I could keep playing.”
If you could work with anyone, who would it be and why?
L: “There are so many artists I’d love to work with but for the purpose of manifestation, I’m going to say Lady Gaga. We are both New York girls who came up in the nightlife/burlesque club scene and have so much in common. She’s paved the way for strong multifaceted women like me and it would be a dream to work with her!”
If you could write about anything, without any repercussions, what would you write about?
L: “This question threw me for a loop and sent me into a spiral, haha! My first thought was all the news reporters who were losing it about the M&Ms, ha, or any other small-minded groups and individuals. I get heated about lots of things but, at the end of the day, I strive to lead with kindness and believe alienation is something that doesn’t lend itself to change. So, while I’d love to scream at these people I don’t really think it would do much since they are generally louder anyway. I’d rather change their life with an act of kindness that they didn’t see coming from someone who they assume would dislike them from the jump.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
L: “@QueenLEXXE on Instagram and you can hear my music on Spotify. All my other links can be found in my Instagram bio!”
