NEW SCENE Premiere: Singer Gert Taberner Returns To The Music Industry With ‘Functional’

We are absolutely honored to premiere Gert Taberner’s brand new single ‘Functional‘! The dynamic singer-songwriter took some time to talk to us about the meaning behind the new single and what’s to come.

‘Functional’ comes from a deep place in Gert’s personal life, which he has decided to share with his fans. “Functional is the first song I wrote about my father’s death after prolonged illness. We had a pretty complicated relationship while he was alive and his death brought about some unexpected emotions. I wrote it about six months after and it’s an attempt at trying to get some closure. I like to think about it as a letter addressed to him.”-G.T.

It’s not just us that have been patiently awaiting his return! Gert has amassed well over 20 Million streams across all streaming platforms, and has kept his popularity throughout his break. “It’s something I’m really grateful for, especially after having spent the previous 3 years not releasing any music due to personal reasons. The fact that people have carved out space for my work in their lives is an honour and not something I take for granted and I’m so excited for what’s next!”-G.T.

And we have an exclusive scoop! ‘Functional’ is not just your new favorite music single, it is a part of his upcoming EP ‘As Good As You Thought We Might Be’, expected to be released in 2023! “As for what to expect I’d say that after a few years away, this EP is really an attempt to take stock of my life. It’s about coming to terms with loss and how sobering that can be. This EP is an endeavour of picking up the pieces, more often than not without having any idea of how to put things back together.”-G.T.
