An actor you need to know!
With roles in shows like ‘The Bay’ and ‘Purgatory’, Erik Fellows He stars as Samuel Grey in the new movie ‘Divorce Bait’, which was just released.
Erik recently exclusively shared whether or not he sees any similarities between himself and his new role, his next project, and more!
Hi Erik, welcome! Let’s talk about your newest project, Divorce Bait, which is being released in theaters and digital outlets on December 9. How did you get involved with it? What drew you to the story?
E: “I got involved in the film because I have worked with the writer/ producer Cristina Nava and her husband, director Patrick Perez in a handful of projects over the years, such as “In Other Words,” “Two Feet In,” “Dangerous Curves,” and others. They are an amazing husband and wife combo, and I’m always excited to work with them, so we stayed very close over the years. Anytime a project comes my way from them that seems to fit me, or Cristina has something to challenge me with, she gives me a call, so I’m very grateful for this project and the character I get to play “Samuel Grey” it was a lot of fun, and we had a blast making this movie!”
How do you relate to your character Samuel Grey? Is there anything special you did to get into character?
E: “I think I relate to Samuel in a few different ways. He’s got a slight confident charm with a mix of some goofiness to him, which I brought a piece of me with those qualities from actual reality. But then he is also sensitive and a bit egotistical in ways, which I kind of carry a little bit of those attributes in my own life, but I gave it a little twist with his style and artistic understanding. So, I brought pieces of myself to the character and collaborated with an understanding of a photographer/artist and their perspective in that world. I live in the moment when I’m playing these characters, so it’s not something I overthink, so I can allow it to come to life during the filming.”
Where did filming take place? Did you get to visit the area for long periods of time? Any interesting spots?
E: “Filming took place in Los Angeles and its surrounding areas; some were in downtown Los Angeles, some were in the valley, and some locations were in the outskirts of the LA surrounding areas. I’ve been living in LA for 21 years. Many of those places are ones I’ve been to before. But it’s always nice to be reminded of where you live and discover new places along the way. It’s easy to do that when you’re filming or when you have some downtime to walk around and say, “wait,” I’ve never seen this place before, and I don’t even feel like I’m in Los Angeles. So it’s a pretty cool experience to have those moments!”
Do you have advice for other actors about what to take when traveling to filming locations?
E: “Well, of course, my advice is to remember to bring a toothbrush, don’t forget underwear, don’t forget to bring extra shoes and definitely pack a coat if it’s a place that’s cold that you’re going to film at. You should remember your phone charger and definitely bring cash just in case your credit/ debit card doesn’t work, or you lose it! Maybe bring your favorite Blankey! Lol.”
How do you feel you have grown since you first started acting?
E: “Well, I feel like I have grown tremendously and have experienced so much more of life. I have become more mature with my decisions. When I look back at some of my older work, even from when I first began, I feel like I’m watching my first time going into kindergarten. Compared to now, when I”m on a set filming for endless hours of the night and producing as well, sitting through all those late-night sessions. My experiences have changed my perspective and reception of this entire business and performing as an actor. I’ve grown in all aspects of the business and my personal life. I make better choices throughout my day and better decisions about what I will involve myself in and be a part of.”
What other projects would you like to share about?
E: “I would love to start by mentioning my recently released film, “Starf*cker,” a dark comedy about Hollywood, and I play the character Jimmy Starr. It is now streaming on Tubi US, Mexico, Australia, Prime Video US & Amazon UK, and Xumo TV. The film has done very well since its release and has been highly rated; we are very proud of it and are happy with the responses it has received. My other projects that will be coming sometime in 2023 are the films “No Tears in Hell,” “Sunlight,” “Love is in Belair,” and “Zero Road.” I’m also in pre-production on a new movie I’m starring in and producing called “A Beating Heart,” where I’m playing opposite Cybill Shepherd and Billy Slaughter with my costar “Vannessa Vasquez” from my new upcoming film “Divorce Bait.” We are looking to start filming in April or May of 2023. It’s a psychological thriller/horror; we’re excited to get this film out there. I have lots of new projects coming, so stay tuned!”
