This singer-songwriter is amazing!
Artist Eric Sleeper is back and better than ever. Today, he released a new single ‘Song Of A Gun’. And spoiler alert: it’s a hit.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Eric about his reaction to his rising fame, teases upcoming projects, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
E: “I realized I wanted to make music for the rest of my life since I received my first guitar at the age
of 14. It was an entry level Yamaha acoustic, but to me it was the holy grail of guitars, and I was super grateful to have it.”
Tell us more about your amazing single ‘Son Of A Gun’.
E: “The song is meant to represent a departure from who others want you to be, and truly becoming
yourself. It is about taking the road less traveled and embracing any judgement along the way and using it as fuel, rather than a deterrent. Often times, we listen to our critics (whether from other people or internal), rather than pushing forward because we believe in ourselves, so it can be liberating as an artist to let go of any critiques and go for it.”
What is your songwriting process?
E: “Typically, it starts with a riff or chord progression, then accompanied by a melody, which is then
written and recorded, but sometimes I go off the beaten path and switch it up. The thing I love about songwriting is it comes about naturally, and is not forced, so you know when you have something and can make it whatever you want it to be. Sometimes I leave my songs lyrically up for interpretation, while at other times telling a story. I look to diversify my lyrical approach, as it makes it fun. At the end of the day, it is important for the artist himself to be happy with the song and be genuine as well as original, since listeners can tell and feed off of that.”
If you could collab on a single with any fellow music artist, who would it be and why?
E: “It is hard to say, since I typically just record solo, but it would be awesome to collaborate with someone unexpected in a different genre. I have recently gotten into Colter Wall, an amazing country artist, so someone like him would be amazing to work with.”
What has been your reaction to receiving thousands of streams on your music, with only two previous releases so far?
E: “It is cool be featured on some great Spotify playlists, and I am excited to share my music with people all over the country/world, and hopefully connect with as many people as possible.”
How would you personally the music scene in New Jersey?
E: “Although I reside in NJ, I am not as tapped into the local scene here as much as I would like to, but am looking to make some headway in NYC, and other music cities, while perhaps building some kind of buzz here. The sky is the limit in terms of places I can connect with people at.“
Can we expect more music from you in the new year?
E: “Absolutely! New single coming in the new year with an album as well further into 2023!”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
E: “I am on all platforms! Find my music on Spotify by searching Eric Sleeper, my Instagram is @EricSleeperMusic, and find me on Facebook (facebook.com/EricSleeperMusic), as well as
YouTube!”
