She’s back with a new hit!
With millions of streams on just Spotify alone, this viral artist has shown that she has a spot in our playlists! And yesterday, she returned to the music scene with a new single backseat.
We had the amazing honor of talking with LO LA about her songwriting process, the LA music scene, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
L: “At the end of my junior year of high school, I was really stressed out because it seemed like all of my friends knew what they wanted to do with their lives/what they wanted to major in in college, but I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do. Towards the last month of school, my school went on its annual school-wide retreat. There was a festival a music club was putting on, and as a part of my set, I performed “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” During that song, right before that last chorus, I swear I had an out of body experience. I looked around me at all of my friends backing me up, at my best friend who was singing the song with me, and down at all of my peers cheering in the audience. During that moment everything slowed down and it felt like I was floating. It was so surreal. After that performance, I knew that performing was what I needed to do for the rest of my life. I wouldn’t be happy doing anything else.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘backseat’?
L: “I’m glad you liked the song! “Backseat” is a song about giving into temptation and losing yourself in the moment. Sometimes you tell yourself not to go back to a toxic person, but no matter how many times you tell yourself not to, seeing them in the moment makes you forget all the bad things that they’ve ever done. Sometimes falling in love with the idea of someone is so powerful you just become numb to it all.”
What is your songwriting process typically like?
L: “It varies! Sometimes I’ll sit at a piano or with a guitar with voice memos on, and I’ll improvise lyrics while playing random chords until I get something I’m happy with. Other times I’ll make a beat with a producer and write over it!”
How would you personally describe the LA music scene?
L: “Chaotic and competitive, but super cool if you go to the right events or meet the right people (which doesn’t always happen easily). I try to go to one music industry-related event each week to really try to make new music friends and network! Sometimes the events are great, but other times they’re a bust! It’s definitely a hit or miss thing.”
On just Spotify alone, you have received over 15 Million streams on your music. What has been your reaction to your rising fame?
L: “It’s so insane to think that my music has been listened to that many times! It’s just hard to wrap my head around the fact that people have listened to my songs and covers millions of times! I’m so grateful that people listen to my music and I can’t wait to release more music in 2023!”
What fellow artist would you consider to be your dream collaboration?
L: “Definitely Tyler, the Creator. I want to collaborate with him SO MUCH! He’s inspired so much of my songwriting. My favorite song of his is “See You Again” featuring Kali Uchis! I would LOVE to make a song like that with him!”
Can we expect more music from you in the new year?
L: “DEFINITELY! I’m going to try and release a song almost every month next year! I’ve been working on SO much new music and I’m really excited for people to hear it!”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
