Singer Alexa Cappelli Shares Her Connection With Songwriting And Her Industry Role Models

This pop artist is back!

With well over 20 Million streams on just Spotify alone, Alexa Cappelli has shown that she has a place in this music industry. Now, she’s back with a new single ‘Lose Lose’.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Alexa about her favorite song she’s written, advice to aspiring singers, and more!

What inspired your interest in songwriting?

A: “I grew up performing in musicals and singing covers, but once I got to high school I really leaned into telling my own stories on stage. It was one thing to bring someone else’s voice to life, but I believe in what I have to say too! After I graduated, I started releasing my own songs!”

How did you break into the entertainment industry?

A: “I’d been singing, writing, performing, and practicing for years before I could even confidently say I found my sound, let alone to have broken through. I know I still have a long way to go as far as my goals are, but I’m so far from where I started and I am proud of the work I’ve put in and the people who have poured into me along the way. I’ve seen that balancing showing up intentionally, and having fun while doing so, makes all the difference.”

What’s your process for writing a song, and how do you know when you’re done?

A: “Songwriting is such a creative coping mechanism and outlet for me. Sometimes I don’t even realize I’m writing my next single when I write a few lyrics or a new concept to my notes app, or record a little melody into memos. I love collaborating with people I trust, and when we get to a point where we feel the song did what it needed to do, that’s where it ends.”

In your career, what’s your favorite song that you have written?

A: “You could ask me this question every day and I would tell you something different every time. Recently it’s been my recent single “Temporary.” I wrote it with a friend on her bedroom floor at a time where I really needed a song like that to process what I’d been going through. Music is so healing and I’m really glad this song exists for anyone else who might need it like I did.”

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your journey as a singer?

A: “I’ve learned to be picky about the advice I take, and to trust my gut. There are so many perspectives in the world, and at the end of the day I want to be proud of the choices I’ve made and give myself grace if I’m not. I get to make music I love and relate to. In my song “Lose Lose,” which is about a friendship gone bad, I had to let go of this person who required so much of me that it was less of a loss to walk away than it would have been to stay.”

What advice do you have for people to maintain their mental health in the age of social media?

A:Everyone has different limits but I know for me that making social media fun is the best part! I have grown – and maybe even trained myself – to really enjoy the process of making and posting content. Replying back to comments and DMs makes it so much more human and interactive. I also think it’s important to take days off your phone every once in a while — it can be really refreshing.”

Who is your role model, and who are you most grateful to?

A:My family means a lot to me, and I’m very grateful for my parents signing me up for voice lessons back when I was a kid, and for pushing me to practice when I didn’t want to. I have always been inspired by big voices like Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry, but as for artistry I really admire the songwriting of Julia Michaels, Lennon Stella, and Taylor Swift.”

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians and creators?

A: “Keep creating and always be learning! It takes a village so be as you as possible and those who are meant to be around you will find you. Give thanks where it’s due, and remember to trust your gut!”
