A double-threat!
Most of us know Jackson from his amazing acting roles in everything from Apple TV+’s ‘Life By Ella’ to Disney’s ‘Sydney To The Max’. Recently, he’s started to embark on his own music journey. He just released a new single ‘One and Only’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Jackson about his dream collaboration, being an advocate, and more!
Tell us more about how you became an advocate for clean water and why?
J: “I’m so grateful to have a platform to share my passion and to advocate for the elimination of single-use plastics and ocean conservation. Single-use plastics are destroying our oceans, the planet, and the food chain. I feel that it is important for the youth of today to understand the short and long term impact of the ongoing use of these plastics in particular. As a surfer and someone who grew up spending my summers on Catalina Island, I have seen firsthand the impact of single use plastics on our oceans. That is why I am passionate about this cause.”
How would you describe your music in one sentence?
J: “An expression of how I am feeling in the moment I am recording.”
What is it like being on the set of the series Life by Ella, now streaming on Apple TV+?
J: “It was an amazing experience! I’m so glad I got the opportunity to showcase another side of my acting. Ella has cancer and my character, Gavin, encourages her to have a positive mindset and shows her how to make the best out of her time in the hospital. “Life By Ella” is out now on Apple TV+.”
If you could collab with any artist on a single, who would it be and why?
J: “I would love to collaborate with Glaive because I feel like our sounds would mesh well together and he seems like a very cool guy!”
In 2020, during the pandemic, you started writing, recording, and producing your own music. What has that process been like for you?
J: “I started off making beats during the pandemic and my parents encouraged me to start writing songs and recording over my instrumentals. I began taking vocal lessons and never stopped making songs since.”
What is the story behind your latest single ‘One and Only’, which was released on November 11th?
J: “When I wrote “One and Only,” I wanted to make an upbeat pop song about being by yourself and missing a person you felt complete with. This song was created in my home studio about a year and a half ago when I had just turned 14. I actually made the beat and recorded the first verse and the pre-chorus before I added the hook 1 month later.”
What has been your favorite single thus far, and why?
J: “Definitely “One and Only” because the song is very dynamic and the beat is always changing throughout the whole song.”
