This talented singer is back!
After releasing bops like ‘Bad Habit’ and ‘Sweet Nothing’, Ela Ozturk is back and better than ever. Last week, she released a new single ‘Roots’. And spoiler alert: It’s another hit.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Ela about her dream music collaborations, a piece of advice she’d give to her younger self, and more!
What has been your writing process?
E: “As a songwriter, this is my favorite question to be asked! My writing process is usually me
writing in my songbook, and I start by writing a few lines about whatever concept or idea that
helps me capture the feeling I am trying to emulate. Then I make sure the song is progressive
throughout, and not repetitive, and well structured. I also use my keyboard and my microphone
to help me capture my ideas well enough to send to my producers.”
What inspired your song Roots?
E: “My song “Roots” focuses on rebuilding yourself after someone has broken your connection with
who you are. This song grows easily from pain to power. The lyrics describe a comeback story. I
wrote this song after experiencing heartbreak, and it helped me give myself the closure I
needed to heal.”
Do you have any goals for your music career?
E: “I would say my goals in my music career are to build a community of people that come together
and share a love for music and to make music that inspires people. I would travel the world
doing shows, work with more artists, and leave my impact on the music world.”
If you could look back on your life, and give one piece of advice to yourself, what would
it be?
E: “I love this question! If I could look back on my life and give one piece of advice to myself, it
would be to have the courage to live in your truth and be yourself.”
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
E: “My dream collaborations would be Adele, Sam Smith, and Alicia Keys.”
What’s your favorite lyric you’ve written?
E: “My favorite lyric that I’ve written currently is from my newest release, “Roots,” and it’s the
chorus- “I’m coming back to my Roots the me before you, the calm before your storm, the light
before your darkness. I’m returning, I’m returning, back to my Roots, I’m coming back, I’m
coming back, I’m coming back.”
What inspires your writing process?
E: “I would say life in general inspires my writing process. I’ve been writing songs since I was six-
years-old but it wasn’t until I had real life experiences, heartbreak, failures, and loss that I was
able to mature as a songwriter and write from a place that was vulnerable and expressive.”
What has it been like emerging into the music industry?
E: “Emerging into the music industry has been quite a journey! I have dreamt of being a
professional artist my whole life, and starting my journey has been exciting and challenging to
say the least. I am so grateful for all the amazing people I have met and worked with along the
way and for the incredible experiences I’ve had so far.”
