One of our favorite groups!
Made up of 6 talented performers, The Trills has become the music sensation that we needed in the world. From their entertaining social media to amazing music covers, they can do it all.
We had the amazing honor of talking with the entire group about how they came together, the original music idea, and more!
What made you guys decide to start “The Trills”? How did you all come up with the group name?
Leroy: “We actually started as a group in Fall of 2015 when Aaron, Kathryn, and I were freshmen at Towson University. We met in random places in the first weekend of school and by the second week, we created a group called the Towson Trills. For the next four years we had the pleasure of meeting and bringing in Will, Nick, and Missy and in those years we spent so much time together performing, rehearsing, and competing that we became family. So, in 2019 we decided to continue as a professional a cappella group and called ourselves, The Trills.“
Who would be your dream artists to work with?
Missy: “I think every single one of us has dreamed of working with Charlie Puth, he is such a talented artist in so many different ways, I can’t lie, I would be terrified to go sharp or flat in front of him cause he would certainly know. I could also imagine us doing some really beautiful chords behind Billie Eilish’s voice. Slay.“
Are there any plans for producing original songs?
Leroy: “We don’t have any specific plans yet, but since a couple of us are songwriters as well, we’ll be ready when the right time comes to show that side of us.”
If you had to choose, what’s your favorite cover you guys have done so far?
Will: “Mine has to be “Break Free” by Ariana Grande. Those harmonies at the start of the first verse get me every time.”
Nick: “You Say” by Lauren Daigle is the only song (so far) that can bring tears to my eyes. It has such a special place in my heart and its beauty never fails to bring out my raw emotion.”
Aaron: “My favorite song that we perform is definitely “Wish You Well” by Becky Hill and Sigala. The song is fun, upbeat and has a really fun and lively beatbox part!“
Leroy: “My favorite right now is actually our original take on an already a cappella song called “Side” by Pentatonix.”
Missy: “Mine is definitely “Traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo. It gives revenge-era every time.“
How would you say starting “The Trills” has opened new doors for you as performers?
Nick: “Before auditioning for Trills my freshman year of college, I only truly performed as characters in musicals or plays. Then, once I was welcomed into the Trills family, I found my authentic voice as myself. Throughout my early experiences of competing in college and performing in my first few venues, I couldn’t rely on a character, I had to rely on who Nick truly is on the stage. Then, as Trills went pro, performing was no longer just a hobby, it became a lifestyle as cliche as it sounds! I put in the work and gained an immense amount of confidence and musical knowledge.“
Do you guys want to keep only doing acapella or maybe pursue some other things as well?
Will: “I think we’d all love to keep singing together for plenty of time to come, but it’ll be awesome to see us all branching out into our own side projects and careers in the future! We hope to someday put out original music together and do some collaborations with huge artists, but I can also picture us as music producers and managers, solo artists, starring on Broadway, teaching around the world- and I would personally love to try anything from videography to acting to farming. Wherever the wind takes us, we’ll put 100% of our energy into it.“
What’s your next goal? Maybe a tour in the future?
Aaron: “Our next few goals are to hire staff members that can push us towards new opportunities in the music industry, to grow our social media, and of course to take as many performance opportunities as we can. At the end of the day, our goal is to keep making music for as many people as we can. The group has always loved performing live and feels most fulfilled while sharing our music with a wide range of audiences. We would love to tour if the opportunity presented itself and are ready to work hard to make it happen.“
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
Will: “Everywhere! You can follow us at @thetrillsmusic on Instagram, @thetrills on TikTok, and on YouTube and Facebook under “The Trills”.”
