This artist is incredible!
With over 50K+ streams on just Spotify alone, Elise Del Mar is just getting started. Before her latest release ‘The One’, the singer-songwriter also released the amazing single ‘Lose Your Love’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Elise about studying songwriting, Tate McRae, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
E: “I’ve been making music for as long as I can remember. I always knew I wanted to pursue music
in some way shape or form, but it wasn’t until I was applying for colleges that I decided to
pursue it as my full-time career.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Lose Your Love’. What is its meaning?
E: “Lose Your Love” is sad girl bop. The lyrics are emotional and about the end of a relationship,
but the vibe of the instrumental and melody is upbeat, catchy, and fun. I’m a very nostalgic
person. I live in the past a lot of the time, missing summer nights with old friends. Going into
college, I lost touch with a lot of my friends, and I was very reminiscent of better times. College
was a really hard time for me, and so I often missed other periods of my life. The literal meaning
of the song is about a long-distance relationship and the struggles that come along with
attempting to maintain a high school relationship through college. I never had one of those, but I
watched a lot of the people I met at college deal with this, and I think I drew a lot of inspiration
from witnessing them experience that. Like, there are a lot of things that change when you go to
college and we were all dealing with this nostalgia for the past in that first year.”
Do you think studying songwriting in school helped you improve as a songwriter for your
music career?
E: “In some ways yes and in some ways no. Studying songwriting helped me get my reps in. It gave
me prompts and assignments to always keep me writing. I do think you have to learn the rules
to break them, but some of my favorite songs I’ve written are from before I ever took a
songwriting class. I wrote those songs so freely with no mind to form or structure. While taking
classes, writing sometimes became a very technical and structured process with lots of rules
and regulations to get a good grade. Somedays writing for a class kind of took the fun out of it.
But now I think I could write a song in just about any genre because of it, and I have a really
good grasp of what makes a great lyric and can articulate my emotions in the music in a very
effective way.”
In 2021, you performed at the iconic Lollapalooza festival, alongside artists like Miley Cyrus
and Post Malone. What was that experience like for you?
E: “It was one of the best experiences of my life. It was surreal being able to go backstage and
network with some of the other artists there. Looking out at the crowd and seeing people dance
along and seeing the faces of your loved ones while you sing your heart out has to be one of the
best feelings on the planet.”
Given your live performance experience, would you consider going on tour in the future?
E: “I would LOVE to go on tour in the future. Right now it’s not in the cards for me to headline my
own tour, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to open for someone on their tour in the near future.“
If you could collab with any artist on a single, who would it be and why?
E: “This is a tough one. I’ve been asked this question before and I feel like my answer is constantly
changing… Currently I’d say Tate McRae. I love her voice and the sonics of her music.”
Can we expect more music from you in the future?
E: “Definitely! I’ve been working on new music all year and plan on finishing it all up and releasing
tons of new songs in 2023.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
E: “My tiktok is @Elise.DelMar and my Instagram is @EliseDelMar. Those are the best platforms to
follow me on to stay up to date with my upcoming shows and my new releases.”
