What a fantastic actor!
When have seen Oliver Alexander on our screens countless times. From Disney’s ‘Sydney To The Max’ to HBO Max’s ‘The Garcias’, he is always a delight to watch.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Oliver about his gymnastics background, most memorable acting mentor so far, and more!
How has it been growing up in the entertainment industry?
O: “The overall experience has been pretty amazing. I love that I have had the opportunity to meet and work with so many great people. I have also travelled to some unforgettable places. With that said, I have also worked extremely hard to get where I am today. I have missed weddings, birthday parties, evenings playing outside and many video games sessions but I’d have to admit, it has all been worth it!!”
One thing a lot of people don’t know about you is your background in gymnastics. Tell us more about that experience and how it shaped who you are today.
O: “Yeah, so I started gymnastics at a very young age, I think I was maybe three. I competed for four years before I made the decision to leave the sport to pursue my dreams in acting. Gymnastics is a very tough sport. I definitely left a lot of blood, sweat and tears in the gym. I give so much credit to all of the gymnasts out there. The sport really shaped me. It taught me determination, discipline and to always push myself to the next level. With persistence and hard work you can attain almost anything you put your mind to.”
One of your more recent roles has been on HBO Max’s ‘The Garcias’. How do you think you related to your character?
O: “It was fairly easy to relate to my character, Max, in the HBO Max series “The Garcias”. Max has very strong family ties and values which I can certainly relate to. He’s also quirky and funny at times and has aspirations to do big things in life but I will say Max is a much better cook than I am.”
You recently just had your 6th-grade promotion. Tell us about how school looks as a young actor?
O: “Oh yes, my 6th grade promotion was pretty unforgettable. I was so honored to have received the Gold President’s Education Award and the Senator Scott Wilk Future Leader Award. Once again my hard work is paying off. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to remain in a traditional school setting. I’m a very hands-on learner so I love that I can still attend school, socialize with friends and even participate in school sports and clubs. I’ve gotten pretty good at managing to juggle school work, studying and reading lines to prepare for self-tape or in-person auditions.”
‘The curse of La Llorona’ was a film released back in 2019, but explain your experience working on such a creepy and fun film?
O: “I always find it funny how scary movies like Warner Brothers, “The Curse of La Llorona”, can be very creepy and scary to watch but yet so fun and exciting to film. I actually had such a great time being a part of that production and there was nothing scary about it, even when I came face to face with La Llorona herself. I met a lot of very talented and amazing people.”
In the entertainment industry you come across a lot of faces. Who has been the most memorable mentor in your time as an actor?
O: “Oh wow, that is such a hard question to answer. I feel like I’ve had many mentors within the industry. If I could only choose one it would have to be Carlos Lacamara. He’s such a talented person, both on and off the set. He’s taught me so many things about the industry and has been such a great mentor. I feel like I can go to him with any questions or situations I might have. We had a ton of fun behind the scenes on the set of “The Garcias” working on my improv skills.”
What has been the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
O: “The best advice that has been instilled in me, is that I and only I set my limits. My parents are big believers that I can achieve and do anything that I put my mind and heart into. I’m a big believer in that and I think it’s the best piece of advice that I have ever gotten.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
O: “Thank you for your time. Please follow me @oliveralexander on Instagram and @theoliveralexander on TikTok”
