What an amazing artist!
After millions of streams on her creative music covers and positive support from her original music, Auti is back with her brand new single ‘4 Years’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Auti about mental health, tour goal, and more!
When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
A: “Music has always been a huge part of my life, from growing up singing in church, to when I was a kid, and especially now, having music playing around me 99% of the time. It’s always been there, but to realize that I wanted to pursue a career in music really just happened. My whole life I’ve sung, but I began
songwriting to cope with personal mental health issues and unfortunate happenings in life, and just put
the two together. Once I realized my music was helping others, along with my message, I knew music
was what I was meant to do.”
You recently released 4 Years to the public. What encouraged you to release something personal
to you?
A: “Luke, the friend that I wrote “4 Years” about, has always been recognized as a main reason as to why I
began advocating mental health awareness, the other reason being my own mental health issues. “4
Years” was not the first song that I had written about Luke, and definitely will not be the last, but it was a
song that clicked with so many people and, above all, a song that I felt could be healing for many. I tend
to struggle accepting things as they are until I actually say it out loud, so I think releasing “4 Years” was a
possible beginning to the journey of healing for myself as well.”
Is there any advice you can give to fans struggling with Mental Health issues?
A: “To start things off, I am in no place to give qualified advice on mental health issues because there is a lot of complexity to mental health, but I can share the things that help me just as one human to another.
When I go through dark patches in life, I try to remind myself that things won’t always feel so heavy. I
know that’s not what anyone who’s struggling with their mental health wants to hear – trust me, I get it –
but it really is true. It’s best to look at the lighter side of what you know has been positive for you in the
past, such as engaging in healthy activities you may enjoy or listening to music that makes you feel
connected (and yes – that can be sadder music).
It’s different for everyone, but the fact that it’s something you will not feel forever is not. I personally always try to thank my followers for just being here. Life is very unexpected and at times very challenging, but there are so many beautiful things that are worth sticking around for. There is always help out there. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help.”
Do you have a favorite personal cover you’ve released?
A: “Looking back on my covers just now, I realize I cover a lot of Ariana Grande and a lot of somber music.
“Somewhere Over The Rainbow” is probably the one I’ve done most and one of my favorites for sure,
mainly for the timeless feel it has and room for personal creativity it gives. “God Is A Woman” (Ariana
Grande) is probably my favorite song to sing ever – just because it’s so empowering and so vocally
driven. Overall, my favorite cover I’ve done of all time would have to be “Future Days” (Pearl Jam). That
song holds a special place in my heart and I feel like I go to a different place when I sing it, or even just
listen to it.”
You’re nominated for Pop AOTY at the Josie Awards! What was your reaction?
A: “It’s super sick! It’s actually my second year being nominated, which is really cool. Last year I won Artist of the Year in my age group and got to give a little acceptance speech, which was really fun. I believe it
started with “this is epic, thank you” and ended with a mental health message, which hey! That’s a win
any day for me.”
If you could collab with an artist who would it be?
A: “This is actually a funny question because I was going to say “Eddie Vedder – I’m still awaiting our collab at the end of the second to last question I answered, but this is probably a better place to put it. So, Eddie Vedder. I’m still awaiting our collab! Another person that comes to mind, even just for songwriting, is Hozier. I’d give anything to see that man’s mind at work when he’s writing. I say it often, but I really don’t think there’s a better songwriter out there.”
Can we expect more music from you? Maybe even a tour in the future?
A: “You can for sure expect more music – I write almost everyday. As for a tour, it is not on the books right
now, but I’m manifesting one in the future, so people can finally come hear my music live! I love doing
shows and I think a tour would be a lot of fun, so definitely in the future. 🙂“
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
A: “You can follow me on my socials under @Autimusic and listen to my music on streaming services under “Auti.”
