A singer-songwriter you need to know!
Nashville singer Caroline Kid is known for her unique sound and incredible songwriting skills. And now, she’s here with her debut project: A self-titled 6-track EP.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Caroline on her favorite song off of her EP, her songwriting process, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
C: “I think I’ve always wanted to, but it took me until I was 24/25 before I admitted it to myself. I found myself out in the real world and not performing for the first time in my life. Something just didn’t feel right about that, so I realized if I wanted to get back on stage I was going to have to make my own opportunities. Plus I was sitting on a mountain of song ideas. I didn’t know how I was going to do it yet, I just knew it needed to be done.”
Tell us more about your self-titled EP ‘Caroline Kid’?
C: “This project is like a time capsule for me. I have written these songs over the course of 6 years of learning how to write songs in Nashville, and each song is a bit of a diary as I’ve learned about love. I joke that the last track, “Love is Messy” is my thesis statement of my 20’s, because love is, in fact, an absolutely unpredictable mess! Even the good times leave a wake. I hope that listeners find some comfort in shared experiences and feel free to romanticize their lives the way I have in some ways romanticized mine with this project.”
If you had to choose, which is your favorite song off of the EP and why?
C: “I think Static is my favorite song, but the production on Do I Miss the Rain is my favorite. I can’t pick because they are all my babies!“
How would you personally describe your songwriting process?
C: “I’ll get a hook or a lyric stuck in my head and it will haunt me for long enough that I sit down and try to fill in the rest of the story. That’s usually how it goes when I’m writing alone. When I’m writing with others I typically like to find an idea that we can all agree on and build it out. I am always focused on the concept. I like to chase the feeling of when a song takes you to a specific emotion and I think getting clear on the storyline is important.”
As a Nashville artist, how would you describe the music scene in Nashville from your perspective?
C: “The music scene here is like a campus. It is a safe place to learn how to become professional-level, and a challenging place because there is so much talent here. People that are here truly LOVE music and that gives such an amazing sense of community that I think is rare in other cities.”
If you could collab with any music artist on a song, who would it be and why?
C: “I think my answer for this changes every day but today I would choose Kelsea Ballerini because I am obsessed with her new album!”
Can we expect more music from you next year?
C: “Yes! Spoiler alert but I’m actually headed to the studio today to start work on new material for next year. Looking ahead keeps me motivated.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
C: “Instagram is still my favorite social outlet. Follow me @carolineonthego!”
