This actress is incredible!
From filmmaking, to acting, to photography, Sofia Norshcau can truly do it all! She’s famously known for her recent (and amazing!) short film ‘Surviving LA’
We had the amazing honor of talking with Sofia about the importance of on-screen diversity, working on a Netflix film, and more!
What inspired you to move from Norway to California? Do you think there are more acting opportunities in Hollywood?
S: “It was a quarter life crisis, not knowing what to do with my life when I quit my job as a graphic designer and sign maker. Acting had been part of my life for five years on stage, so a mixed need for a vacation and purpose I moved to LA. The opportunities in Norway can be wonderful if you get them of course, but I was intrigued to learn the ways of Hollywood.”
How important do you think international representation is in the entertainment industry?
S: “The time we live in screams the need for broader visibility of all people, of all backgrounds, and nationalities. It will not only change our perspectives but make us familiar to struggles and cultures we never new existed or seemed exotic and strange. “
You have done multiple stand-in roles. What have these experiences been like and which one, in particular, was your favorite?
S: “They all have given me something to hold onto. While working on Netflix’s Unfrosted, it was one of my first days, we were going over the blocking and reading the lines. As I crossed Jerry Seinfeld who’s the director of the movie, said to me “oh we got more comics here” that was a big moment for me. That production made me feel like I am where I am supposed to be.”
Tell us more about your amazing short film ‘Survivng LA’.
S: “Surviving LA a dark-comedy about stereotypical characters navigating the chaos of this city. The character Annette Anderson aspiring actress trying to fit into the Hollywood mold, dealing with heartbreak finds comfort in an unexpected place, a homeless camp. The production of this short film came from a passion from the writer and director Armen Pogosyan to do something about the increasing homelessness in LA.”
Do you prefer working off screen, on screen, or doing both?
S: “A lot lately I’ve been getting I have a producer mindset. Although my passion roots in acting, I can’t and won’t pick a side it fluctuates. Which is one of the wonderful things about this industry. You can do both.”
Who is your idea of a dream co star?
S: “This is such a tough question because of course we see the a listers, the familiar faces we grew up with, and are oblivious to what goes into creating that on screen truth. If I have to pick one Swedish Naomi Rapace has for sure been an amazing inspiration and I would love to work opposite her one day.”
Besides working on acting projects, what are some of your favorite things to do?
S: “To fully recharge I like hiking and roadtrips. For the daily I go to the gym, write, listen to music, go watch plays and photography.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
S: “You can find me on most social media’s under the handle @bare.sofia, though I’m most active on IG. Bare is Norwegian for just, which is a handle I have had since forever, so it has almost become my brand.”
