One of our favorite singers is back!
With nearly 2 Million monthly listeners on just Spotify alone, how could you not be obsessed with Rosie Darling? And now, she’s back with a five-track EP entitled ‘Golden Age’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Rosie about the production of the EP, her music charting, and more!
You released your EP “Golden Age” along with your new single “What A Convincing Illusion” on August 12th via Nettwerk. What was your inspiration for Golden Age?
R: “Golden Age is a collection of songs I wrote mostly during the pandemic. Navigating the world in such unprecedented times left room for a wide range of emotions. Feeling like I missed out on what are supposed to be the “best years of my life” and how being stuck at home created a lot of stagnant energy within myself was a huge inspiration behind the title track, “Golden Age.” I felt like my friends and I experienced SO many highs & lows about not only our relationships, but our own inner growth too. I wanted to capture the feeling of questioning everything around yourself and how difficult it can be to trust yourself throughout the process during times of uncertainty.”
What made you want to pursue a career in music?
R: “I have always wanted to pursue a career in music. I feel like as a human being I experience all of the emotions that everyone else does and finding a way to create a story around it has always helped me process those emotions. I love writing and I am so lucky to live in a place where I am surrounded by other creatives with similar goals.”
For your EP, you worked with writers Matt Rad (Niall Horan, James Arthur, Little Mix), Justin Gamella (FINNEAS, Bella Poarch, Lennon Stella, Ashe, Aoki, Kaskade), Cooper Holtzsman (Zachary Knowles, Dixie) and Grammy Award-winning mixer Michael Brauer (Coldplay, John Mayer, Tony Bennett). What was your experience like working with some legendary writers?
R: “Nothing short of AMAZING! I am so lucky to have found my circle of people I feel free to be myself and creative with. Their patience throughout discovering where I wanted to take the next EP was hugely important and we spent a lot of energy perfecting the songs to where I felt at peace with them. I really love this EP and I feel like it captures a different side of me and I am happy that I took some production risks with the encouragement of my collaborators!”
You are co-headlining a West Coast tour with Caleb Hearn beginning Sept. 29th! How do you feel about co-headlining the tour?
R: “SO EXCITED! Tour is uncharted territory for me so I am beyond excited to experience it! Caleb and I are signed to the same label, so we have a great team behind us ready to make this tour memorable and fun for everyone involved :)”
You were charted on 14 different Spotify Viral 50 charts, landing Top 20 on the Global Viral Chart! What was your reaction like landing on some charts for your music?
R: “A bit wild to think that I haven’t toured and the music is charting by itself! It feels really rewarding to know that it’s reaching the right audience. I struggle sometimes with social media and I don’t want anything to feel forced when I promote my music, so I am relieved and thrilled that these songs have found a home with the right listeners who were meant to find them.”
When you are writing do you usually focus on the music or the lyrics?
R: “Both!”
Do you have anything specific you write about like personal experiences & etc?
R: “I like to create stories around different emotions, so sometimes I begin with a feeling and try to capture that with lyrics first, or I find a melody I love and then work with co-writers to uncover the story. I love how writing a song feels like a bit of a puzzle. You have to try different things out until you find the perfect lyric that works with the melody but it’s a really rewarding feeling when something just clicks.”
Do you have anyone that you look up to as a singer/songwriter?
R: “I really love Julia Wolf’s music right now. She is so honest in her feelings and I appreciate that she uses the entire 3 minutes of a song to pack in a lot of lyrics! I love songwriters that have a lot to say because I feel like it hits differently when you listen to a song that doesn’t always follow all of the “pop structure” rules. My song “Say Less” on my upcoming EP was sort of a break from normal structure and you’ll realize when listening to it, it’s a shorter song and nothing really repeats! That is not very normal in the pop world, but I felt like the lyrics were really important to me and wanted people to hear the message behind the song despite repetition.”
