Is there anything she can’t do?!
With so many acting credits under her belt, Lindsey recently rose to fame after starring as ‘Kendra’ in the Netflix film adaptation of ’13: The Musical’. And now, she’s stepping into the music industry today with the release of her first ever single ‘Flowers’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Lindsey about Zendaya, upcoming EP, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in acting?
L: “I started acting when I was 4 years old, and for as long as I can remember I have loved performing. From participating in dance and piano recitals to my first stage play in my hometown, where I got to show my awesome puppeteer skills, I have always loved performing and making people happy. I’ve been acting all of my life and have loved all of my roles, but honestly booking and filming 13 The Musical has been a dream come true. I got to use all of my talents and challenge myself! I really am grateful!”
Can you tell us more about your amazing character ‘Kendra’ in the Netflix musical film adaptation of ‘13: The Musical’?
L: “Kendra is the kind, head cheerleader at her school. She’s been raised by strict parents and she is trying to find her own as the movie progresses. She’s a role model!”
Do you think you have anything in common with your character?
L: “I absolutely have so much in common with Kendra. When I got the audition and read the breakdown for the role of Kendra, I knew I had to portray her. She is kind and considerate and tries to see the good in people and I think I am that way too.”
Besides ‘13: The Musical’, do you have a favorite Broadway musical?
L: “I love Hamilton. It is my absolute favorite. My parents entered the raffle to win tickets to see the show, and we won. When my mom and I arrived and realized we were sitting in the front row right in the middle of the stage, we lost our minds. It was on my actual 12th birthday too and an unforgettable night. It was amazing!”
You have starred alongside so many incredible actresses and actors. Is there an actress you would love to work with in the future?
L: “I’d love to work with Zendaya. I have been a fan and following her career my entire life. I love how she was able to take here career from childhood to adulthood and stretch and challenge herself in different roles. It would definitely be a dream come true to star in something with her.”
We hear that you are also dabbling in the music industry! Are you excited to release your upcoming music to the world?
L: “I am so excited. I’ll be releasing my first EP later this summer and my first single comes out August 19, 2022. The single is entitled “Flowers” and it’s a great big metaphor. It’s about someone treating you the right way and you ultimately making each other better by being the thing that makes them happy. Being someone’s flowers is about knowing that you are beautiful and knowing you’re worthy of being loved the right way.”
What advice would you give to POC fans who also want to pursue acting?
L: “My best advice is to never give up! Being in this industry, there are so many times when you are told no and rejected. It can be very disheartening, but you have to remember that what’s for you is for you! And, whatever you do, don’t compare your journey to others because that will still your joy. Your moment will come, just keep working hard and you will see the growth.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
L: “You can keep up with all I am doing by following me on @lindseyblackwellofficial on Instagram and Tiktok, and @lindseybwell on Facebook and Twitter.”
