This Australian artist is no joke!
With over 10 Million followers across social media, this definitely isn’t the first time you’ve heard from Katja Glieson. Today, she’s back with a brand new single ‘Starseed’, inspired by Icon Marilyn Monroe.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Katja about getting validation, where to keep up with her, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
K: “Music became really important to me during elementary school. I struggled with obesity and bullying. I love disappearing into music. I love the narrative of the lyrics and the movement of the melody is interesting to me. Music and songwriting became a way I could make sense of, and express myself in the world. But now…. I’m not so sure anymore. What was once my escape, safe haven and best friend has led me down a soul destructive path feeling the deepest despair.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Starseed’ and music video.
K: “Starseed is a haunting jazz ballad. The melody, harmonies and vocal performance is inspired by music from classic Hollywood films. Lyrically, Starseed depicts the story of a sensitive, passionate, innocent soul making the choice to end their physical life. Starseed is about the death of innocence and naiveté.”
What is your favorite fact/thing you admire most about Marilyn Monroe?
K: “Her resilience and her determination. Despite her unstable upbringing and the precariousness of the film industry, Norma created one of the most iconic figures in history: Marilyn Monroe. She went on to create her own production company which produced “The Showgirl and The Prince.” In the last few months of her life, Marilyn Monroe began to finally own her voice. She was speaking up for herself and taking command. Unfortunately her empowered growth came to an early end.”
We have to talk about ‘Princess Rap Battle; one of the most popular videos to date on Youtube. If there was ever another round now, would you be a part of it?
K: “I no longer agree to anything without a lawyer present ;).”
You have released so many incredible singles. If you had to pick, do you have a favorite song you have released so far?
K: “Thank you so much! My favorite to date? I really love Better View. It is very meditative and has a frequency that puts me in a calmer state. Better View is one of two songs I have available in spatial audio. California Dream is as well.”
You have received over 10 Million followers across your social media platforms. What has been your reaction to your growing fame?
K: “ I am glad to get validation that I am making content people are responding to. Growth helps me have the ability to keep creating. Whether it’s comedy, the music or the random livestreams where we chat about life and wellness. I appreciate when people connect with me and I hope to have more opportunities to grow and create.”
Can we expect more music from you in the future?
K: “I have been in the studio with a few amazing producers and co-writers in the past few months. It’s been really refreshing to expand into new music territory. Whether I personally release music again is still something I am considering. Being an artist requires being vulnerable. And this world has become too volatile for my true vulnerability.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
K: “Now you have found me, don’t lose me!”
