IRIS On Her Musical Growth, John Mayer, And Newest Single ‘Back By The Weekend’

This singer-songwriter is amazing!

With over 500K+ streams on just Spotify alone, IRIS music keeps getting better and better. And, on July 12th, she came back with her new single ‘Back By The Weekend’.

We had the amazing honor of talking with IRIS about how she would describe her music sound, her rising fame, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music? 

I: “I think I was in 6th grade when I did one of my first talent shows. I was super shy back then and I knew I loved singing, but I also knew if I couldn’t get on stage and perform in front of people, then it was never going to work.”

Tell us about your amazing new single ‘Back By The Weekend’. What was its meaning?

I: “This song I feel really represents what a lot of people go through with back and forth questions of a relationship. Sometimes our feelings can be the scariest things to face and a lot of times it’s easier to run away from the feelings than deal with them head on.”

How would you personally describe your sound? 

I: “Eclectic! I honestly love so many different types of music that I try to incorporate into my own. Right now what I’m really rounding my sound out to be seems to be a more alt/country/pop vibe, but from past songs I’ve released, it’s been a little different. I guess the common thing in all my music is that I love incorporating organic sounds more than electronic sounds.”

How do you think you have grown as an artist since your initial debut?

I: “Performing my songs out in front of people really helps me figure out what works and what doesn’t for me personally. I love the music I put out but the test for me is how it feels when I perform it live. I also have learned to trust my instincts more and speak up when I love or hate something. For me there’s really no right or wrong in what I’m doing, it’s about what feels right and trusting my gut.”

What has been your reaction to receiving nearly 1 Million streams on your music so far, on just Spotify? 

I: “I mean that’s so incredible! Doing it on my own without a label push is scary and a much longer and trickier process to get noticed. I’m very lucky though to have a great manager: Jaz Valencia at JV Agency and her team behind me along with amazing fans that are following/supporting me on this journey :).” 

If you could collab with any artist, who would it be and why? 

I: “I love John Mayer and would love to work with him on something someday. His raw sound and talent are everything!”

You are already back in the studio! Can we expect more music from you in the future?

I: “Absolutely! I’ve been working with Malay on new production and some of the greatest songwriters (Trey Campbell and Simon Wilcox). We’ve come up with some songs that really speak to me. I plan on releasing another single this year and a full-length next year.”
