This young actress is incredible!
This voice-actress and theatre performer is pure talent. You may recognize her as ‘Olivia’ in the star-studded film ‘Marry Me’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Olivia on favorite actresses, her current Netflix show, and more!
You have starred as ‘Olivia’ alongside J-Lo and Owen Wilson in the popular film ‘Marry Me.’What was it like for you to portray that role and work with some big names in the industry?
O: “Working on ‘Marry Me’ was a wonderful learning experience. Before this, my background mostly centered around Broadway Musical work other than working in Small Film, which I got to play the lead role in ‘Curbside Waltz’ when I was just ten years old. Being a working actress in Warner Brother’s Feature Film was a thrilling experience for me. Just watching the crew members was incredible. J-Lo and Owen Wilson were so kind and welcoming to us, and I am so grateful I got to see how they work on and off the camera. This particular project inspired and instilled a passion for me to obtain more roles in films down the road.”
You are a very known voice actress for your role as ‘Megan Zhang’ in Netflix’s ‘Karma’s World’ and as ‘Rana’ in the cartoon series ‘Super Wings!’ How much is voice acting differently from acting in front of the camera?
O: “Compared to on-camera and even theater acting, voice-overs require notable vocal versatility. Since takes do not include your facial expressions, emotions and attitudes must manifest through your voice. I’ve noticed that when I am in the studio, using my whole body is a crucial step to make up for the absence that my face would typically have.”
What made you want to start acting?
O: “When I was a toddler, my parents took me to ‘The Lion King’ at Minskoff Theater. I was immersed in the role of Young Nala at just 5 years old. I lived in the NYC area all of my life, so seeing Broadway shows and attending auditions were accessible to me. I began with off-Broadway productions like ‘Annie’ and continued to attend a few workshops and acting classes. Singing and acting were my favorite hobbies and came naturally to me. When Opportunities to audition for ‘The King and I’ and ‘School of Rock’ were presented, I automatically knew I was meant to perform.”
You were part of Broadway Kids against bullying: I have a voice. Can you tell us more about that?
O: “It was an invited event by a Broadway Producer. During this time, I was part of ‘The King and I’ cast and got to join the young Broadway community. I am delighted to be a part of raising awareness for an important social issue.”
When you are auditioning, how do you get into the mindset of the character?
O: “My preparation for each audition is typically similar. I like to annotate and analyze the given scenes to understand my character better. Depending on the project I will do additional research if I am unsure of the character’s action.”
What is a goal for yourself as an actress?
O: “I don’t really have a set goal, but I would like to continually be motivated and cultivate my skills.”
Do you have anyone that you look up to as an actress?
O: “I’ve always admired Lea Salonga and Jennifer Anniston.”
What is some advice for people that are just starting out in the industry?
O: “Just be yourself and work hard. Don’t be afraid of rejections, because it’s what the industry is built upon. Don’t give up!”
