LA-Based Singer Goldie Vargas On Her Upcoming EP, Songwriting, And New Single “Canyon”

This singer-songwriter is a force to be reckoned with!

Goldie Vargas is an artist who you need to bring your attention to. Ahead of her upcoming EP entitled ”Golden”, the incredible artist is back with new single ‘Canyon’ that just released today!

We had the amazing honor of talking with Goldie about her dream collabs, her favorite songs off of the EP, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?

G: “I think I was about 5 when I realized I wanted to pursue a career in music. My parents exposed me to tons of live music as a child and I was always so in awe of these artists they would take me to see. It wasn’t until I was 12 that music became more serious for me. I did a showcase for my music school where I sang and played a cover of my favorite song at the time. Something felt so right about performing and creating for others and here we are now!”

Tell us about your amazing new single ‘Canyon’.

G: “Canyon” is about the personal conflict and self realization after a breakup when you miss the person you were with and the relationship you once had, but most importantly,  missing who you were before them. It’s almost like you are beating yourself up for letting yourself get so lost in love, but also being brave enough to say “yes I will always love that person, but the most important love should be the love I have for myself.” To me the entire song physically feels like you are running towards yourself in a field of flowers trying to get back to your roots. I find the song incredibly empowering and self loving, despite being a break up song. My favorite lyric from the song currently is “I guess the greatest love was never you, because I’m missing me too.”

What is your usual songwriting process like?

G: For me, my songwriting process starts from playing around on the piano and recording it on my voice notes to go back to. I get random words stuck in my head throughout the day so I’ll write down a quick quote or verse in my notes app or notebook and then come back to them when I’m starting to songwrite!”

You are about to release your EP ‘Golden’. What is your favorite song off of the track?

G:All of them, They are all my babies! Each song is truly a chapter of what was happening during a period of my life. My producer, Adam Gurr, did such an insane job at producing the entire EP and understanding each song and where I was coming from. We created such a cool EP together and I’m so excited for everyone to hear it!”

You are from Los Angeles. How would you personally describe its music scene?

G: I think the music scene in LA is so incredibly diverse and that’s what I love the most about LA.  You can go to the same venue for one week and hear at least 5 different genres!”

If you could collab with any other artist, who would it be and why?

G:Stevie Nicks or Joni Mitchell! Both women are HUGE inspirations to me in everything they do and I look up to their songwriting so much. They are able to tell stories in such a specific way that only Joni or Stevie can do. To be able to watch their process and hear their insight would be mind blowing. Stevie has this tradition where she gives a gold crescent moon necklace to an artist that she believes in and then you are supposed to pass it down to an up and coming artist you believe. It’s super super exclusive but  I feel like it’s the ULTIMATE honor to get!”

When not working on music, what are some of your favorite things to do?

G:When I’m not working on music I’m usually going to flea markets, reading, traveling or running around LA! My friend group and I are all born and raised in LA so we love to pretend to be tourists or go to our favorite places to hang out. Most days we will pick one place to meet and see where the day or night takes us. Sometimes we go see other artists perform or we will head to art exhibits, the museum or to the movies. Some days we will go thrifting together, it all depends where the wind takes us ahaha!”

Where can we follow your amazing journey?
