This singer is a huge prodigy!
At just 15 years old, singer-songwriter Kjersti is becoming a name to know in this music industry. She is also currently on the amazing ‘Boys Of Summer Tour’, which features over 30 talented creators.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Kjersti and music career growth, upcoming EP, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
K: “My parents always say that you should love your job and when I figured out that I loved music I decided I wanted that to be my job. My Dad and I would have jam sessions regularly, he would introduce me to all his favorite songs from when he was my age and we would sing them. It was lots of fun. So I decided I wanted to do it as a living.”
Tell us about your amazing new single ‘Boys in Jersey’.
K: “Well, I wrote the song about all the annoying stereotypes we see in boys (in this case in Jersey since that’s where I’m from). The verses explain how annoying they are and the chorus is how I wish they’d act. It’s a fun upbeat song and it’s out right now!”
Since your initial debut when you were only 11 years old, how do you think you have grown as an artist since then?
K: “My voice has definitely matured, that’s for sure. I think the messages of the songs and the energy that they’re given has adjusted to my present age and changed for the audience I’m singing to. I’ve been working hard since I was eleven, so I’ve learned more about my voice and songwriting.”
How would you describe your usual songwriting process?
K: “My Dad, Mom, siblings, or I will come up with an idea. My Dad or I will come up with a melody and the basic chords of the song. Then we’ll start writing lyrics based on the idea and the melody we’ve created. We don’t always follow the exact same pattern. Sometimes we have great lyrics and write the melody for them and sometimes we have a beautiful melody and we write lyrics based off that; all depends on what comes to us first.”
You are officially on tour! What is it like touring this summer with ‘Boys of Summer’? Is there a city you are most excited to visit?
K: “It was very fun being on tour with Boys of Summer. Sadly I was not on the whole tour just the East Coast leg, but it was still an absolute blast. My favorite city would have to have been Long Island, New York. I met a lot of cool people there and the venue was very, very cool. Being on tour is a very special experience and I had lots of fun. I may be adding to the final three cities in Oklahoma and Texas. I am waiting to find out.”
You are also getting ready to release your EP later this year. Can you give us any hints of what it will have?
K: “Right now we’re focused on releasing the single, BOys In Jersey followed by a second single. Then we will be deciding on which songs will be on the EP release. We have an idea of the songs that might be on it, nothing super finalized from what I can tell but it’s gonna be a lot of fun releasing some of the music I’ve been holding on to since COVID. It’s been so fun being in the recording studio creating and it will be exciting to have it all out in the world.”
Is there anything you want to say to your growing fanbase?
K: “Thank you so much for all the support. I really appreciate all the love I’ve been getting. I’m super excited for everyone to hear the new music that’ll be coming out soon. Stay tuned.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
K: “I’m on Socials at Kjersti.Long and I have a website Kjerstilong.com“
