We’re about to see this star all year long!
Actor Braeden De La Garza is no stranger to the screen. Now, he stars as the loveable ‘Prince Emmett’ in the Disney Plus original series ‘The Quest’
We had the amazing honor of talking with Braeden about ‘Cruel Summer’, music career, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in entertainment?
B: “I was seven years old and sitting in bed with my mom. Suddenly, while we were watching TV, I saw a child my age onscreen! I had surely seen kids my age onscreen before, but this was the first time it had ever processed in my brain that someone my age could become a different person on television, and I decided right there that I was going to find a way to do the same.”
You have starred in several projects, from on-screen to stage productions. Which type do you prefer and why?
B: “I prefer being on-screen. While being on stage is a challenge, and I definitely find it more difficult from a preparation perspective, I enjoy the ability to completely become a character on-screen. On stage, while you may be in character, you always need to keep technical things like projection and staying open to the audience in mind. On screen, the camera captures even the most subtle changes in an actor’s body language. The performance feels much more real knowing that the camera will pick up everything, no matter how small.”
Tell us about your amazing role in the Disney plus original series “The Quest”.
B: “I play Prince Emmett, a member of the royal family seeking refuge from the evil Sorceress Tavora. I’m a bit of a bookworm with no real knack for heroics, but I’m forced to go outside of my comfort zone when the threat of darkness looms large. I also have great hair.”
Do you think you have anything in common with ‘Prince Emmett’?
B: “I think Emmett and I both thrive when we’re observing. I don’t shy away from attention, but I am very comfortable sitting in the corner of a room and observing those around me. I find it relaxing, and so does Emmett. Because I said so.”
We are so excited to see you in Freeform’s “Cruel Summer”! Can you give us any hints on the upcoming season?
B: “While I can’t say much, I can tell you audiences are in for a treat. My co-stars are some of the most talented actors I’ve shared a screen with, and the brains behind this production are some of the most brilliant I’ve had the pleasure of working with. I’ve never been a part of a more exciting production, and I think viewers will have a lot to say about my role, Brent Chambers!”
In the spirit of Pride Month, you are open about your support of The Trevor Project. Why was it important to you to support such an incredible organization?
B: “Growing up in a largely socially conservative area, I witnessed a lot of prejudice towards the LGBTQ+ community firsthand. Because I was a man in the arts living in the area I did, I would have homophobic comments and slurs thrown at me constantly. I recognized that while the prejudice directed towards me came from outdated and insensitive stereotypes, those who really identified as part of that community must feel 100 times worse. I have watched people struggle to accept themselves due to the pressures of others, and I don’t think anyone should have to go through that alone. Many people do, and they don’t make it out of that struggle alive. That’s why I am so supportive of The Trevor Project. Their mission is to be there. They’re there to make sure those who are feeling lost within themselves have a way to accept the person they have always been and begin to live a more fulfilling life. It is extremely important work, and I am proud to donate and work with them whenever/however I can.”
You are also very musically talented. Do you think you would release any music this year?
B: “I don’t know about this year, but I am definitely interested in releasing music more so than I previously have been. I’ve written and produced a lot of it, and recently came to the realization it doesn’t do any good just sitting in a file folder on my computer. We’ll see!”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
B: “On all my socials, @braedendlgarza!”
