They are back with a new radio hit!
The amazing pop-punk group “SUCKERPUNCH!” is certainly a group to know. After thousands of streams on their music, on just Spotify alone, they are back with their new single “Nightcalls”.
We had the amazing opportunity of talking with the group about getting their name, dream collab, and more!
When did you guys first realize that you wanted to make music together?
S: “Late 2020. We felt pop punk was resurging in the mainstream and Jo (bass) and Terry (guitar) just felt it was the right time to start a band. They just started writing as a duo and the universe just decided to send them Fred (vocals), Alan (drums) and Rome (lead guitar). Starting a band is hard. There’s always a missing piece. But this time it was really easy and everything came together effortlessly.”
How did you guys come up with your band name ‘SUCKERPUNCH!”?
S: “Once again came to us out of nowhere. Every Other band we started was nameless for months and got a terrible name a few days before the first release. This name was literally the first one we considered and it just stuck. Felt right.”
How would you guys describe your unique sound?
S: “We are all huge fans of the golden age of pop punk in the early 2000s but we also try to keep our ears to the ground as to what’s going on right now. Our sound is our own blend of the old and the new. I would also say we try to have a fun party vibe that is maybe a bit lacking in the scene right now.”
Tell us about your brand new single “Nightcalls”.
S: “Nightcalls is an upbeat summer pop punk anthem. Big drums, catchy riffs, vocal melodies that get stuck in your head. It’s all there. Lyrically we wanted to do our own tongue in cheek take on the highs and lows of succumbing to an irresistible casual lover. So you are definitely in the same party vibe as the instrumental but there’s a bit of soul searching buried in there too.”
What has been your reaction to receiving thousands of streams on your music?
S: “Ecstatic. We didn’t exist a few months ago and now our music is reaching thousands of people across the world. We wake up everyday pinching ourselves at how positive the reaction has been so far. People are really connecting with our sound and vibe. The music industry in 2022 isn’t perfect but there is really a cool opportunity for indie artists to get heard and noticed if they put the work in.”
If you guys could collab with any music artist, who would it be and why?
S: “Oh my. We could list 1000 artists here. Collaborating with great writers and producers is something we love to do so much. If I had to narrow it down I think I would say Hayley Williams of Paramore. Absolute icon with such a killer flow and powerful voice. I think she would bring one of our songs to the next level.”
Can we expect more music from you guys this year?
S: “We are really following the 2022 indie release model. So in another 2-3 months. The song is already done so we are 100% going to keep that date ;)”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
