This Brooklyn-based singer is back with another hit!
With half a Million streams on just Spotify alone, Sandflower is quickly making her way onto the music scene. Now, preparing her upcoming EP, she’s back with a song with the Unstoppable Death Machines, entitled “Quicksand”.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Sandflower about her main inspiration, power of dreams, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to become a singer?
S: “I was about 3 years old when my mom asked me what my great purpose on this planet was. I told her it was to sing and make people happy!”
Tell us about your amazing new single “Quicksand?
S: “Thank you! Quicksand is a turbulent, beautiful and tumultuous moment in time where I was on the edge of heartbreak and a new beginning. This song makes you feel something and I think that’s what art should do, make you feel. Let you know you’re human and what you experience has meaning and is important.”
What is your songwriting process usually like?
S: “My process always starts with an idea whether it’s a lyric or a melody and usually after the seed of the idea is planted I get visions of imagery and the story of the song starts to unfold. I really love songwriting, like I love it, and it’s a delicious process whether I’m writing alone or co-writing with other amazing people.”
Who would you say are your biggest music inspirations?
S: “My mom for sure, she’s a rockstar literally and I’m so blessed that I grew up watching her on stages, and seeing her processes in writing, leading a rock band, rehearsing, touring. I’m also super inspired by female artists from the UK. I always have been of all genres. I love early Motown classics as well.”
Are you excited for your fans to see your upcoming EP? Can you give us any hints?
S: “Yes I am so excited. Hints… it’s going to be rowdy, it’s going to be introspective, it’s going to be fun and it’s going to be dropping in June!”
When not working on music, what are some of your favorite things to do?
S: “I love to sleep ha! You probably weren’t expecting that answer but I’ve always loved sleeping. I solve problems, come up with ideas, even get song ideas in my dreams. And when I wake up other than music I love to meditate and create headpiece sculptures. I guess I spend a lot of time doing relaxing and meditative artistic rituals that allow me to surrender to being an artist in the flow of pure imagination.”
What has been your reaction to receiving over 500K streams on your music so far?
S: “I didn’t even know I had over 500K streams until I just checked from this question. So this is my in the moment reaction. It feels wild in the best way! It’s like if I think about people around the world choosing to spend time listening to my music I’m absolutely filled with appreciation for each and every person. If I could thank them all individually, I would. Because music touches your innermost soul.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
S: “You can follow me on Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook all @sandflowerpower !”
