Singer-Songwriter dee holt On Lizzy McAlpine And New Single “Picture”

This music artist is back with another hit!

At just 18 years old, dee holt is quickly becoming a pop-artist to know. She has received over 1 Million streams on just Spotify alone, including bops like “Olivia” and “Nobody Like You”. Now, she’s back with her new single entitled “Picture”.

We had the amazing honor of talking with dee on her songwriting process, singing experiences, and more!

What is your favorite part of performing?

D: The feeling of getting on stage and getting past those nervous butterflies is what makes it all worth it. However, I’ve yet to perform my own songs on stage, in front of a crowd… all I’ve ever performed is covers. And I’m betting that performing your very own creations in front of a crowd is a whole other feeling, that I’m excited to experience. So stay tuned.”

What has been your reaction to receiving over 1 million streams on Spotify?

D:Absolutely insane. All the attention, playlists and listeners are so new to me, and I’m so so grateful for my mini fan base. Sort of feels like I’m living a double life ahahah.

It’s been crazy, and so overwhelming and I’m still trying to wrap my head around all the love and support.”

What inspired you to become a singer?

D: Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to sing.. I joined guitar club, glee club and choir club in elementary. I was part of the music program in high school and took part in talent contest and shows. Although I never thought of writing my own music or making something of it, my parents always supported me and told me that if I wanted to, I could take the whole singing thing far, but the thought never really crossed my mind. It wasn’t until I met my boyfriend that things started to stir up a little. During a supper with both my family and his, the subject of music came up. My parents mentioned that I could sing, and so everyone asked that I pull out my guitar and perform a song. At the time, my boyfriend of two months didn’t even know that I sang, and so I was nervous to sing in front of everyone. I took my guitar and sang facing the wall because I couldn’t stop laughing and jittering. When I turned back around, everyone looked teary. I guess they weren’t expecting me to actually be able to sing ahaha. Long story short, their family friend, Benjamin Nadeau turned out to be a producer. And so, one thing led to another, we ended up making music together. Putting out my own songs is never something that I planned on ever doing… but life handed me an opportunity, and I would have been stupid to turn it down ☺”

What is the story behind your new single “Picture”?

D: “Picture” is a song about letting your guard down and letting in those you love. It’s a summery, fun song, with a deeper meaning hidden behind the upbeat melody. The song is from my point of view, as I sing to someone, and let them know that I will always be there, as a shoulder to lean on, and that they can break down their walls.”

What is your songwriting process usually like?

D: The process really is a team effort. I usually go to the studio, and Benjamin has already produced a beat/melody to work around. If he hasn’t, we listen to music and come up with one together. From there, we improvise a top line melody. The first version of a song always sounds like gibberish given that I’m not singing any real, meaningful lyrics or even words. It’s really just to give us an idea of what the melody and harmonies will sound like. Once that’s done, I sit down and write the lyrics with Benjamin’s girlfriend, Audrey-Louise Beausejour. We go off the vibe and feeling of the song, and usually keep certain words among the gibberish and build from there. It’s such a fun process and I lovelovelove working with the two of them.”

If you could collab on a song with any artist, who would it be and why?

D: Ouu that’s a hard question to answer, there are so many! I would really love to collab with Lizzy McAlpine. I have always loved her music, her voice, her style, as well as her online personality. Together, I feel like it could be an interesting collab!

OH! Or even Lennon stella, I love her music, her lyrics, her tone and I feel like our voices could mix well!”

Can we expect more music from you in the future?

D:Definitely. Get ready!”

Where can we follow your amazing journey?

D: “Follow my journey on Instagram, TikTok and of course Spotify, Apple and all other streaming platforms xx”
