This singer-songwriter just released a major hit!
At just 24-years old, singer Haley Gold is quickly taking the world by storm. With nearly 1 Million streams on Spotify, her fans have obsessed over her most popular hits, from “Butterflies” to “Couch”. Now, she’s back with a brand new single entitled “Laughing In My Sleep”.
We had the absolute honor of talking with Haley on her biggest music inspiration, upcoming release date, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
H: “What’s actually really funny is I just recently looked at my 5th grade yearbook and it had the question: what I want to be when I grew up and I actually wrote singer! Haha which is funny because I didn’t realize until now I actually loved to sing for that long. I thought I kinda fell in love with singing when I was 14 doing a school talent show project with my twin sister where I sang and she danced. No one told me after I performed I was bad so I just kept it up! Haha but super funny honestly I had no idea.”
Tell us about your amazing new single “Laughing In My Sleep”.
H: “This song is for sure one of my favorites. It was an outlier and I think when I wrote this song with my best friends Mark Sanderlin and Jesse Blumenfeld we all collectively walked out of the session going, “I think we’re really onto something!” Haha and here we are today! but, this song truly speaks for itself. It’s an anthem for enjoying being with yourself and no one else and opening your eyes to fresh starts.“
What would you say your songwriting process is usually like?
H: “So I would consider myself a weirdo when it comes to my songwriting process. Most of the songs I write, even Laughing In My Sleep stemmed from me writing lyrics and melodies on the train into the city or in the passenger seat of a car. I can’t sit down and write at a desk or in a session, I usually come in with an idea already and everyone always asks me where I came up with it and they laugh when I say, “during my commute” haha but when it comes to what I want to write about it’s always an experience I had, never made it scenarios because I want to be as honest as I can about my music and it would be silly to make up lies. So this song in particular actually happened to me on a night out where I finally realized I didn’t need any friend or boyfriend to have fun. I only needed myself. I fully went out into the city by myself – didn’t tell anyone and just bought myself dinner and went to a club and met people all on my own and I have to say, greatest experience ever!”
What has been your reaction to receiving nearly 1 Million streams on your music so far?
H: “Tears, just tears of joy! It means everything knowing my music is being played not just in my town but all over the world haha like I didn’t think that would be real!”
If you could work on a song with any artist, who would it be and why?
H: “Jeez, if you asked me this when I was 14 I would say Justin Bieber haha probably still would haha but from a songwriting perspective I need (like neeed) to write a song with Julia Micheals. That would probably make my whole life complete. I learned from studying her songs she wrote for herself and other artists.“
Are you excited about your upcoming tour?
H: “OH YES! My next show is April 23rd at Heaven Can Wait in New York City! 8pm EST! Haha if you’re in New York. But truly performing has become second nature for me now- I just love it! So yeah I’m stoked!”
Can we expect more music from you in the future?
H: “Absolutely! I’m not done yet! Haha I got a whole story to tell! Look out in May for my next single …”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
H: “@haleygoldd on all platforms!“
