This influencer has made an amazing impact!
With nearly 1 Million followers on Social Media, we are all starting to obsess over the talented Scarlett Bella Song. From modeling in Fashion Week, to acting, to dancing, is there anything she can’t do?
We had the amazing honor of talking with Scarlett on her favorite projects, putting on performances, and more!
You’re making a splash on social media and beyond as a dancer, model, and actress. What made you decide to pursue a career in entertainment?
S: “It’s funny, but upon reflection, I never actually made a conscious decision to actively pursue a career in entertainment. The opportunities I’ve had presented themselves because I was doing what I loved and I was recognized for it. So, my career kind of found me!”
“My earliest memories from childhood are of me putting on performances for my family and friends. It’s my nature to be creative, expressive, and share stories – so I was always assembling an audience to watch me perform.”
“Throughout my life I’ve gravitated to the performing arts. It’s part of my identity and how I engage with the world. Early on, I attracted invitations for opportunities and that is how it continues through today. Each exciting experience has led to the next one. As I take school (35 hours a week) and dance training (20-35 hours a week) very seriously, I have to pick and choose very carefully the additional commitments I add to my schedule.”
“The way I decide which projects pursue is that I follow my heart, gut, and accept only the opportunities that genuinely interest me. I’d rather have fewer opportunities that are a good fit and feed my soul than accept an opportunity that does not reflect my values or personal style. Ultimately, I gravitate towards projects that are positive and that enhance humanity.”
In Sept. 2021, you did what many models dream of doing their whole careers by walking in New York Fashion Week. What can you tell us about that experience? How does it feel to accomplish this so early in your career?
“My experience walking runways at New York Fashion Week have definitely been the most adrenaline-fueled and rewarding modeling experiences I’ve had so far. I’m so appreciative for my dance and runway training because both helped me with my movement quality, confidence, and ability to navigate any “surprises” I might encounter. (You would be surprised what could actually happen during a live show!)
One of my favorite parts of runway modeling is the feedback I feel from the audience as they react to a new collection reveal. Each runway has its own distinct personality, mood and energy, so I’m energized each and every time.”
“I’ve been cast with several designers for upcoming runway shows this Spring through Fall and I couldn’t be more excited or appreciative to have these opportunities.”
Being a performer often comes with stage-fright or nerves. Is this something you have experienced? How do you deal with it?
S: “I’m very fortunate that I don’t suffer from stage fright but I most definitely experience nerves of varying degrees. As I’m my own worst critic, I generally feel nervous because I want to deliver a high quality performance that the audience deserves. That said, I have a complicated relationship with pre-show jitters because a little bit of jitters actually amps me up and builds up my anticipation and excitement. That said, I have to manage my nerves so that they don’t escalate into self-doubt or distraction.”
“As a performer, I think it is extremely important to take care of yourself. On occasions where I’ve had very little sleep or ate poorly, I can feel myself becoming more overly-emotional and this triggers stronger-than-usual nerves and negative send-talk. Knowing this about myself, I developed evoke strategies to take care of myself before performances.”
What has been your favorite project you’ve worked on and why?
S: “While I fully appreciated and enjoyed all of my experiences prior to the pandemic, I was beyond excited to dance live at venues during New York Fashion Week. I can’t express in words the profound feelings of appreciation I had for people willing and eager to return to theaters for live shows.”
“Just a couple of weeks ago, I had the exciting opportunity to walk in a Rebel Athletic fashion show with my idols The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. In some ways, it felt like I was coming full circle to where it all began because when I was younger I performed with professional NFL cheerleaders for charity events in Washington DC. It was during these events where I discovered how critically important it is for me to give back to the community while pursuing my dreams and career.”
Do you have a dream role or job you would love to land?
S: “What a fabulous question! I have so many career aspirations related to dance, modeling, and acting as well as designing, owning and operating my own businesses. My ultimate dream would be to combine all of my interests into making my own movie where I write the screenplay, act, produce and direct it.”
With all of your success so far, you have become a role model and inspiration to your followers. What do you think has been the key to your success at such a young age?
S: “The key for me is to find opportunities that are genuinely a good fit for me. I also think having an abundance mindset has evoked the law of attraction and the right opportunities present themselves to me at the right time. I don’t get distracted by what others are doing and I believe there are plenty of opportunities for everyone.”
What advice would you give to others looking to pursue a career in entertainment?
S: “My advice for kids trying to get into the Hollywood scene is to be realistic and to go for it. Each person has a unique journey. I’ve seen some young stars achieve success very early and other remarkable talents who have yet to have their time in the limelight. I also see many talents who are overlooked for a variety of reasons, but that is no indication that their time will not come. “
“To get started, you might want to find a manager, agent and acting coach. Then, you want to start signing up for various sites where you can self-submit to open auditions. I also recommend that you give it your best effort when you go on auditions and submit self-tapes because you might be exactly what the casting agent is looking for. This takes a tremendous amount of time, dedication and sacrifice….. But, if you love the process and you are able to bounce back from disappoints, then you have the wherewithall to pursue your dreams.”
“While a career in entertainment is glamerous and exciting, it is also demanding, challenging, and not for everyone. You often have to come to terms with the fact that you might not get a role because of your “look” or another reason outside of your control…. and that is just the nature of the beast. Also, it is definitely an industry all about “who you know.” If you have a connection to fast-track your joruney and to gain momentum, then you have a major headstart!”
You’ve recently launched your jewelry line, Annie X Scarlett Jewelry. What was your inspiration behind this collection?
“The inspiration behind the collection is to uplift, empower, unite and inspire teens. The inspiration came when we were in the midst of the pandemic and I had been on Zoom school (and online dance training) at home for over a year. I was feeling disconnected and yearned to connect more closely with my friends. I realized that I was not alone in my feelings and I wanted to send messages of love and empowerment into the world.”
“I was born with an inherent need to express myself creatively and I enjoy exploring new vehicles and outlets to do so. In this case, it took the form of sharing these messages via the 15 pieces of jewelry collection.”
“I hope that each person who wears a piece from the Annie X Scarlett collection feels like they received a heartfelt hug from us. I want each individual to feel the love and deep meaning infused into each piece. Hopefully the jewelry will unite us and help create an inclusive community where we uplift and support each other.”
What’s next for you? Do you have any upcoming projects you can tell us about?
S: “Just this week, I was invited to walk in Austin Fashion Week in April and also to dance at an international fashion gala in Canada in early summer. While I am already committed to other projects, I’m hoping to fit in these amazing opportunities. I’ve also been invited to partner on an fashion venture, but it is in the very early stages and wouldn’t likely launch until 2023.”
To finish our interview, what goals have you set for yourself For 2022?
S: “In terms of modeling, my primary goal for 2022 was to branch out and work with new designers and brands. I was recently cast in four runway shows for designers that I have not previously walked for, so I’m very excited about these opportunities.”
“In terms of performing, I am excited to return to the stage and to dance for live audiences. I’ve had requests start yo trickle in, so I’m very excited for what’s to come.”
“In terms of designing and entrepreneurship, this is what I’m most excited for because I love being involved in projects from the very beginning and these opportunities don’t necessarily have finite end-points.”
