This pop/rock band is back with more!
With thousands of streams on their music, the ‘Double Identity Band’ is quickly making their way to the front of the industry. Now, they are back with their newest single “All On You ( You’ll Still Hate Me When You’re Sober)”.
We had the amazing honor of talking with the group on their songwriting process, Avril Lavine, and more!
When did you guys first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music together?
Courtney: “I don’t remember there being an exact moment. We’ve been playing music since we were 5 years old, when both Arden and I started taking drum lessons. When we were 8, Arden switched to guitar, and not long after that we joined Monsters of Rock, which was a program at our music school (shoutout to A Sound Education in the Chicago suburbs) that put young kids into bands together. Throughout the years of that, eventually the other band members fell away, and it was just the two of us left. At some point while growing up you realize that this is something that can be a job, and not just for fun. So we’ve been performing out in the Chicagoland area ever since we were kids.”
Tell us about your brand new single “All on You (You’ll Still Hate Me When You’re Sober)”
Courtney: “All on You (You’ll Still Hate Me When You’re Sober)” is a fun-yet-angsty take on the last phone call before a relationship ends. A mix of pop-rock and pop-punk, it’s the perfect track for those that have ever felt embarrassed or regretted who they’ve wasted time with.”
What is your songwriting process usually like?
Arden: “Songwriting is an outlet for me, so usually I start with whatever I’m feeling in the moment that I need to get out. I tend to write lyrics and melody at the same time, in chronological order, and depending on the vibe of the song I’ll write the basic structure on acoustic or electric guitar before recording it and filling in any blank spots. I have to make sure I get the story down first, and then I’ll go back in later to add all the lead guitar.”
Who would you say are your biggest music inspirations?
Arden: “We’re adding artists to this list all the time, but consistently we refer to Taylor Swift and Against The Current. We love a ton of different music and artists, some of which is very different from what our sound is, so I think we take bits of inspiration from a variety of places. Maisie Peters’ storytelling and lyricism is something we look up to, plus The Summer Set, Pale Waves, and Avril Lavigne.”
What has been your reaction to having thousands of streams on your music?
Courtney: “It’s always great to know people are enjoying our music. We work so hard on it and to see it having an impact is really cool and encouraging.”
Can we expect more music from you guys in the future?
Courtney: “Always! Our latest single, “All on You (You’ll Still Hate Me When You’re Sober) is the second single off of our upcoming EP, which we’ll be announcing sooner than most people realize. “Red Flags & Roses,” which we released last October, will be on the EP as well. We’re not giving away the title and release date just yet, but listeners can expect it in late April of this year.“
What are your biggest music goals? Maybe a tour in the future?
Arden: “It would be a dream to collaborate with Against The Current and The Summer Set! Opening for them or any of the other artists we talked about above in the next few years would be amazing.”
