This young artist is back with another single!
Belmont University student and singer Katie Power has quickly made her appearance on the music scene. After her recent single ‘It Just Me’, the songwriter is back with a new single “Led Me On”.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Katie on her songwriting process, her biggest music idols, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
K: “When I was younger and watched Disney movies and shows like Hannah Montana and High School Musical, I knew I loved performing. But when I learned about Taylor Swift when I was nine, I knew I loved writing music. It combined my two loves of singing and telling stories. I have been hooked every since.”
Tell us about your new single “Led Me On”.
K: “Led Me On” is about meeting the wrong person at the wrong time. It’s about standing up for yourself, even when it kills you. I was inspired by that heartbreaking realization that you were being used and not truly loved.”
What is your songwriting process usually like?
K: “I love writing lyrics first. Like I said, I love the storytelling aspect of songwriting. So once I have an idea of what I want to say, a melody sort of follows that.”
Who would you say are your biggest music idols?
K: “My biggest music idol is Taylor Swift! She is huge inspiration as a writer, musician, performer, businesswoman – EVERYTHING. I have seen her on every tour since her Speak Now tour back in 2011. I also love Hayley Williams and Phoebe Bridgers because they are also very gifted lyricists.”
What was your reaction to recently being nominated for a YEPPIE Award?
K: “It was INSANE! It was the first time I was nominated for a songwriting award and it was even more special coming from the community of Nashville. I was so thankful for all the people who voted too! Even though I didn’t win it was amazing to be considered for something like that.”
What has balancing your career and your studies been like?
K: “It’s been interesting to say the least! I am currently answering these questions before I go to my demo production class and yesterday I had to write a 15 page short story (which ending up being fun, just daunting!) I love it though, I feel so in control of my career thanks to what I’ve learned at Belmont and living in Nashville. It’s just a day by day kind of thing sometimes.”
Can we expect more music from you in the future?
K: “Yes yes yes! I am releasing an EP with two more new songs April 26th! And after that I will be getting back to the studio because I have so many songs that I want people to hear. So yes tons of music to come.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
