This country artist just gave us an amazing album!
With well over 2 Millin streams on her music, Callie Twisselman is quickly making her way into the music scene. In 2021, she released her debut project “Closure” as well as ‘Together’, which was featured in the brand new Netflix film “My Little Pony: A New Generation”!
We had the amazing honor of talking with Callie on Songwriting, dream venue, and more!
Callie, these last couple of years must have been a whirlwind for you, having signed with Dolly Parton’s Manager and working with Award-winning Aaron Pearce. But could you tell us a little bit about your beginnings? How and when did you fall in love with country music?
C: “I always knew I loved singing, practically since the day I could talk. But I was 10 years old when I decided to actually get in front of an audience and I sang the National Anthem at our local fair opening for Bonnie Raitt. I’ve been hooked ever since.“
What is your favorite thing about songwriting? And how do you overcome the challenges you find on the way?
C: “My favorite thing is how therapeutic it can be and how it’s so neat that you can create these little stories of life experiences and make them into works of art that lasts forever. Whenever something seems challenging or if I feel like writer’s block is coming I never force it. I feel that songs are meant to flow naturally and if it’s not there that day then pick up and try again another.”
You have been collaborating with Grammy-award-winning producer Aaron Pearce. In what ways has this experience changed both your career and how you work as a musician?
C: “Yes, working with Aaron was great! He really pushed me to be my best and my songwriting and music has really progressed along the way. My career in general has taken such a huge step forward this year thanks to Collaborating with him and having a song on the newest My Little Pony Movie Soundtrack.”
How was the process of creating your latest EP “Closure”? Is there an overall message, or storyline that connects all the songs within it?
C: “Creating my EP “Closure” was a dream. All the songs on it were created over the span of a few years and different chapters throughout my life. With all that time, I’d say the 5 tracks were very well thought out and selected. And just really represent me as an artist. I was very excited to finally get to record them and put them out into the world.”
I believe next March will be your international debut in one of the biggest country music festivals in Europe (C2C in London). How are the preparations for this first debut?
C: “Yes, March will be my first time across the pond! I’m so thrilled to be on this lineup and a part of the festival, it hasn’t even really sunk in yet. But definitely a lot of preparations going into it. From the band to the songs and even outfit inspo lol Can’t wait!”
Europe will hopefully be the first of many, what other places would you like to perform in? Do you have a dream venue?
I would love to perform the Opry one day, that is on the bucket list. Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee would be pretty neat too!
How do you keep yourself grounded, and maintain your drive as an artist?
C: “I have been at it for some years now, so I’ve grown a lot of patience and just learned to enjoy the process of doing what I love. Good things usually always take time and it keeps me driven with each small goal met along the way. I just think of how each small goal adds up to the big ones!”
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
C: “In ten years I see myself still making music, hopefully with some number ones under my belt!”
What would you say to women getting into the music industry today? What is your main word of advice?
C: “I would say to never give up! Anything is possible if you want it badly enough. Get out there around the industry and connect with people doing the same thing! Most of the time it’s just dedication, perseverance, a little patience and loving what you do!”
