This R&B singer is on all of our playlists!
Erika is not a stranger to acting and singing. We first fell in love with her on the hit Nickelodeon’s show “Make It Pop”. Now, she’s back with a brand new tone, and let us just say: We’re hooked!
We had the absolute honor to have a talk with Erika on her newest single, her favorite role so far, and her next goal!
Q: What first sparked your love of singing/music?
E: “I’ve loved music and performing for as long as I can remember. I think what took it from a passion, to something that I looked at as an actual career option was when I taught myself how to play the piano and discovered songwriting. From that point on it became all I wanted to do and I knew I had no choice but to pursue it or I’d go crazy.”
Q: Tell us about your new single “Admit It”?
E: “Admit it” is what I wish I could’ve said to someone I was watching fall in love with me, when I knew I didn’t feel the same. I’d spent a while feeling this way in the relationship, watching it get more and more serious and him get more and more invested, all while having this gut feeling that I wasn’t going to be able to meet him there emotionally. I hadn’t really explored it in my writing because I hadn’t found the right way to approach it, but when I wrote the line, “I’ll admit it, I wouldn’t know love if I was in it”, it all kinda clicked and the rest of the song came very quickly.”
Q: If you could work with any artist on a song, who would it be and why?
E: “Drake! I’m a huge fan but I think there’s also a really interesting Toronto connection there; I’m Canadian and my first ever acting job, a show called Make It Pop, actually filmed in the exact same school/studio lot as Degrassi.”
Q: Have you enjoyed your background in acting?
E: “I’m so grateful for it! Without acting I don’t think I would’ve had access to the opportunities that I have in music! Also, starting a career so young really implemented a strict work ethic into me that I’m very grateful for. I wouldn’t change anything!”
Q: What has been your favorite role in acting so far, and why?
E: “I think it would have to be Corki Chang! That role holds such a special place in my heart… playing her changed my life.”
Q: Can we expect more music from you in the future?
E: “Yes! I’ll be releasing a live acoustic version of my debut single “Admit It” this month! The rest of the EP is also coming soon, along with some really cool music videos that I’m so excited for people to see!”
Q: What are your biggest goals for your career?
E: “My biggest dream is to headline my own international stadium tour.”
Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?
E: “@erikatham on instagram, TikTok, facebook and twitter!”
