We had the absolute honor of talking with Alex on her music journey, songwriting, and her favorite artist!
Q: When did you first realize that you wanted to start a music career?
A: “I don’t feel like it was a realization, I have always wanted to create music for as long as I can ever remember. I have always loved performing and singing for people. There wasn’t ever one day I just woke up and said, “I want to be a musician and an artist”. It is something that has always been there, music calls me. I just have to answer the call!!
Q: Tell us about your brand new single “Oh Baby”.
A: “Oh Baby is my new song that came out a few weeks ago. The inspiration of the project was; you know that feeling you get when you really like somebody? It’s a bunch of emotions all at the same time. Nervousness, excitement, thrills, exhilaration, euphoria, to me it’s like butterflies and falling confetti- so that became a line in the song. “Oh Baby” is about that feeling you get when you really like someone and the way you feel when you’re with them. It’s a really fun vibe.”
Q: What has been your reaction to receiving over 200K streams on your music?
A: “It is so utterly exciting, it means the world to me when you put so much work into a song and people listen and stream it and over all just like it. It makes me soooo happy. I love creating music, everyday I work at making art I like, and hopefully something you will like too.
As an artist in today’s world we are not judged by our abilities, talent or skill set… we are judged by our numbers, followers, streams and views so when our number grow it’s everything. “
Q: You recently attended NYFW. What was that experience like?
A: “I love NYC and fashion so I don’t think there could be anything better. It was really fun. I’ve been two years now and both times were amazing. I love to be involved in the shoots, walking and performing for the shows. I love just watching shows too. I love getting dressed by designers and it really inspires my artist nature every time I go. I am a creative being at my core and NYFW bring it out in all ways. I really enjoy seeing other creatives bring their art to life. I want to have a collection to show on the runway one day soon.”
Q: What has been your favorite experience in your career so far?
A: “I don’t think that there is just one, I really am fulfilled every time I get to create. I loved shooting the paper mask music video. I think that each project is so fun and exciting. I feel that I am really lucky and blessed every time I get to perform and go to the studio, and just having the opportunity to do the thing I love is the best experience every time.”
Q: What is your songwriting process like?
A: “It depends, if I am creating by myself I have a format I like to follow. If I am creating with industry professionals I like to follow their system, that way I can learn from them. So it depends on the situation, we use a variety of various procedures. I’ve had a lot of co-writing sessions with some truly wonderful writers, and I love learning about their methods and how they like to do things. But the method I really like to use is to start with chords and build a track from there, laying down a melody and some rough wording, then come up with a theme and write about it then sink the vowels to the rhythm and find words that fit with the melody.”
Q: If you could collab with any artist, who would it be and why?
A: “Ruel- his vocal ability and tone are incredible, and I love the music that surrounds his songs. His producer, M-Phases, did an incredible job on his album Free Time, which I adore. It’s so crazy to believe that I’ve been listening to that album everyday for the past two years! And so many others such as Ariana Grande, Madison Beer, and Christina Aguilera.”
Q: Should we be looking out for more music from you this year?
A: “Yes, I have a song called Broken Record coming out in about a month, and I can’t wait to share it with the world. Broken Record is a song that is my favorite so far of all my songs I have. This song to me represents me finding my sound as an artist. What the song is actually about is continuing in a relationship that is not really good for you, and going back even though it no longer serves you.”
Q: What are your biggest goals for your career? Maybe a world tour in the future?
A: “100% YES!!! My goal is to be a chart topping artist, a global household name. It is a very big goal but that is what I have dreamed of ever since I could remember. That is what gives me purpose, and keeps me moving forward towards my goals every day. I think we need huge massive goals to inspire us to get moving each and everyday!”
