“Riverdale”s Doralynn Mui On Favorite Role, Sandra Oh, And Valuing Uniqueness

This rising actress is dominating the screen!

We have seen actress Doralynn Mui star in some of our favorite shows of all time, from CW’s “Riverdale” to CW’s “The 100”. She recently even starred as Fiona in Peacock’s new show “One Of Is Lying”.

We had the absolute honor of talking with Doralynn on her iconic roles, her acting journey, and her favorite role so far!

Q: When did you first realize your love of acting?

D: “When I was a kid, I would love to act out soap operas and fake broadway musicals for my friends (I swear I wasn’t super obnoxious about it though!). In Grade 7, I got the role of “servant” in the school play, and those 3 lines really got me hooked.”

Q: What has been your favorite role to play, and why?

D: “This is tough! When I really think back, I think my favorite role so far was for a short film that I did many years ago, called Ellen Infinity. I played both a real life person and an AI clone, so it was fun to play basically two versions of the same character. But I also loved that the character was just this fun, confident person who knew exactly what she wanted. It was also really rare and fulfilling to be able to explore the character with the director in rehearsals before we even went to set.

I also really enjoyed the emotional stakes of playing Zee in Two Sentence Horror Stories, getting to be a revenge-driven fighter in Deadly Class, and being a snotty sociopath in Riverdale.

Q: If you could star in a movie with any actress, who would it be and why?

D: “SANDRA OH. She’s so charismatic and effortless with her acting choices, I really admire her career. Also she seems like she’d be a cool person to go get ice cream with.”

Q: Has it hit you yet on the fact that you have had so many iconic roles?

D: “You are so sweet to say that! I still feel like a newbie in this industry (and will probably always feel that way). I’m always looking to keep learning and growing, and I’m really thankful for all of the opportunities I’ve had so far.”

Q: What advice can you give to young girls wanting to start in the industry?

D: “I’m still working on this myself, but I would give the advice not to give your power away. Always remember you have something unique to offer, and don’t let anyone try to diminish that!”

Q: When not on screen, what are some of your favorite things to do?

D: “Digging through garage sales and thrift stores (but I think I have a hoarding problem)! I also love taking classes – right now I’m learning to dance and sharpening up my Chinese speaking skills. I’m also a big fan of cuddling up and watching emotionally intense movies, anything that gets a good snot-cry going is a winner.”

Q: What are your biggest goals for your career?

D: “I’m looking forward to taking on a meaty character that I can “sit” with for a while, where I can really bring their whole journey and growth to life. I’m also working towards writing and creating some of my own projects.

It sounds boring, but my ultimate career goal is to get to a place where I can achieve a good work/ life balance, where I can be creatively fulfilled while making time to prioritize my relationships and mental health. I’m currently working on making this a reality for myself!”

Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?

D: “Follow me @doralynnmui on Instagram!”
