This Candian singer is reaching new highs with new music!
Annabel has definitely come a long way in such a short time. After her debut in 2018, her fans have treasured her incomparable tone and character. Now, while balancing a future degree at Berklee College of Music, the singer is back with her ever album entitled “Loose Ends”.
We had the absolute honor of talking with Annabel on her music journey, and how she feels about her debut album.
Q: When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue music?
A: “I decided I wanted to pursue music professionally while picking my undergraduate degree program. I had always loved performing and singing, but it wasn’t until I started writing songs of my own that I considered pursuing music as a career. Songwriting is at the cross-section of my passions – Telling stories and music! I was debating between music, cognitive science, and pre-law for my undergrad when my mom asked me which program would make me the happiest. It was with this simple question I knew what I needed to do… And I haven’t looked back since!’
Q: Tell us more about your debut album “Loose Ends”.
A: ‘Loose Ends ‘is a collection of songs that essentially chronicle my life from my mid-teen years until my early twenties – A coming-of-age album, lyrically and sonically, if you will! I hope people who listen to the songs on Loose Ends feel seen, heard, and understood, and pacified by the knowledge that they’re not alone in their feelings and experiences!”
Q: What is your favorite song off of the album and why?
A: “As a self-designated “Song Mom,” it’s challenging picking a favorite song off of my album because each one has a very special place in my heart! If I absolutely had to pick one song, I believe “Skylark” would be my favorite! I love the simplistic nature and acoustical essence of the song, the sentiments being conveyed, as well as the lyrics.”
Q: Who would you say are your biggest musical inspirations?
A: “I have so many musical inspirations! Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, and Harry Styles are a few that immediately spring to mind. The music I’ve been writing as of late has also been inspired by the likes of Queen and Dua Lipa, as well as musical show tunes from a plethora of different shows, including Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, Hamilton, and more!”
Q: How would you describe your songwriting process?
A: “My songwriting process has been nurtured into a creative habit. I usually start with a lyrical idea I develop melodically into a song section, typically a verse or a chorus. I write the remaining parts of the song around the section I developed until the entirety of the song is “complete.” I try to be more expository in the verses of the song to give listeners insight and details about the story being conveyed and relay the meaning of the song in the choruses.”
Q: How has it been balancing both university and music?
A: “Balancing both university and music can certainly pose challenges in terms of time management, but thankfully, my schooling is all about music so the two are quite symbiotic! I’m constantly able to apply my learnings from school to my music and music career in real-time, which I believe enables me to grow as an artist at an expedited pace.”
Q: What are your biggest goals for your career?
A: “I have a number of big goals for my career! I would love to one day perform at the amphitheater in Verona, Italy, as well as at the Bell Centre in my hometown of Montreal, Canada! I would be HONORED to duet with some of my favorite artists, host and be the musical guest of SNL, write with and for other artists, as well as use my voice/platform as a vehicle for change!”
Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?
A: “You’re so sweet! You can certainly follow along and be a part of my musical journey on social media!”
