This singer is no outcast to the limelight!
Alt-pop Camille has started to become a well known artist in the music industry. Her music has reached nearly 500k streams, and that’s just Spotify alone!
We had the absolute honor of talking with Camille on all things music, goals, and more!
Q: When did you first realize that you wanted to start your career in music?
C: “When I started playing guitar around age 13, I realized I wanted a career in music. I was a creative child, always writing short stories and poems. I also loved to sing! So when I found my passion for guitar and combined storytelling with music, I realized that songwriting was it for me. Shortly after my songwriting journey began, I learned how to make it my full time job, and the rest is history! I really can’t imagine doing anything else.”
Q: Tell us about your new LP “Perfect Vision”.
C: “Perfect Vision is my 3rd full length album. It’s made up of songs that have a common theme of looking at situations in either a brighter or more realistic light. For example, “Freight Train” is about moving away to a new area where you don’t know anyone and not feeling afraid to be alone. “Pretty on the Outside” is about never judging a book by it’s cover because things aren’t always how they seem. “Settle Down Somewhere” is about finding peace and happiness in settling down when there is still so much left to see and do in the world. Each song portrays my “perfect vision” of life and tries to find silver linings in everything I have encountered! It’s a generally positive, uplifting album but the production is a bit darker and more raw than my past releases.”
Q: What is your favorite song off of the LP and why?
C: “It’s hard to pick a favorite when I have put so much into each song. I truly love them all. I don’t feel bad about naming a few favorites though! “Paradise” is the first song on the album. I felt that it was perfect to set the stage for the listening experience. It’s a pretty relatable love song, generally speaking. I love the bridge. Next, my favorite melody on the album is in “Same Song” (track 3). I remember writing it in my last apartment and the song came together quickly. It has a soothing chorus that always gets stuck in my head! Lastly, I am partial to my first single, “Pretty on the Outside”. It’s track number 6 and it’s got an edge to it. It’s definitely the most guitar-heavy alternative rock song on the LP. That sound and genre is pretty new for me so it was exciting to hear it come to life. The music video was super fun to film, too.”
Q: Who is your biggest music inspiration and why?
C: “I get asked this question quite a bit and it’s hard for me to answer. I really am inspired by many different bands and artists. I’ve never in my life been able to confidently name just one, but if I had to, I’d say The Beatles. I think that because they were the band I was listening to most when I started playing guitar, their knack for writing melodies and creative lyrics was ingrained in my brain from the beginning. Of all of the bands I cover songs by, I do their songs the most. I have a song list that I bring to cover gigs and under The Beatles there are like 40 songs, whereas other bands have maybe 2-5 songs each! I’m also inspired by songwriters such as Kacey Musgraves, Sara Bareilles, John Mayer, etc.”
Q: How do you think your music has grown since your single “Sparrow” in 2013?
C: “I’ve become a much more honest writer. My songs began as stories that rarely meant anything personal to me. Over the years, I have learned how to write about my own life. I still incorporate storytelling into my music, but I think a lot longer and harder about my lyrics. I also am sure to never use just a few chords in a song. I really challenge myself to come up with unique chord progressions and melodies. This new way of writing is a great outlet for me.“
Q: How would you describe your songwriting process?
C: “Normally I start singing melodies in the car on the way to and from gigs. Then later I’ll sit down and apply chords and lyrics. I’ve always felt that the melody is the most important. It’s what brings magic into a song. The melody is also what gets stuck in your head! Lyrics are fun for me as well and sometimes a bit more challenging to write than the music.”
Q: You have received over 300K streams on your music. What is your next goal?
C: “I’d love to hit 1 Million on Spotify! I have hit over 1.5 Million on some other platforms for “Silver Lining”, and my music is pretty well known in some other countries because of it. It’s just amazing to know how much support people are giving out there. It would be cool to get on some Spotify playlists and gain an even bigger following there.”
