Both a writer and an actress, this LA-based actress is incredible!
Cyrina Fiallo is one of the most well-versed actresses in the industry. She’s starred in everything from Disney original tv shows, to comedic sitcoms, to movie dramas. Is there anything she cant do!
We had the absolute honor of interviewing Cyrina on her acting journey, her upcoming short film, and her love of comedy.
Q: What first started your love of acting? What was your first role?
C: “I’ve always loved performers. My grandfather was a jazz drummer, my grandmother sang and my uncle was (and still is) in several rock bands, so I grew up watching a lot of live music and my parents would take me to shows. Music was my first love, but I was always absolutely terrified to sing in front of people. In 9th grade, I took a drama class and it really ignited my love for acting. My first real role was playing Mary Warren in The Crucible, but technically, my first role was Ursula the sea witch from The Little Mermaid to whoever would listen to me!”
Q: What has been your favorite role so far?
C: “It’s really hard to choose what my favorite role has been, but I’d say the most pivotal role for me was Bethany (aka Tuba) in MTV’s Made: The Movie. I hadn’t been in LA very long and was mostly doing theater. I have extremely expressive eyebrows and tend to love big, broad comedy, so for this film I had to learn to really take it down from an 11. One day, the director, Samir Rehem said, “I’m gonna need more Adam Sandler, less Jim Carrey.” I’m pretty sure at the time, Jim was still talking with his butt so… I think you get the idea. I also got to learn how to play the bass!”
Q: If you could work with any actress in a feature film, who would it be and why?
C: “I’d have to say Annette Bening or Melissa McCarthy. They’re both wildly talented and can do both drama and comedy seamlessly. My favorite thing is laughing so hard you can’t breathe and I think I’d be doing that daily if I got to work with either of them.”
Q: What advice can you give to aspiring actresses in the industry?
C: “Just be your authentic self. From the time I could dress myself, I presented as 100% me. I was always told I was weird or too much, but it never really bothered me. However, when I moved to LA, I kind of lost who I was because I got caught up in trying to be what everyone else wanted. The sad part is, you will NEVER figure out what that is. It took me too long to realize, but the best you can ever be, is yourself.”
Q: Can you tell us about your upcoming film “Someone To Carry You”?
C: “Yes! This is a short film that I wrote about meeting my friend Laura when we were five years old. We were two girls growing up in Miami and, especially compared to the other kids, always felt like little weirdos. Finding each other when we did was such a miracle because not only did we never feel alone, but we had someone by our side to champion our weird. It’s about meeting your first real soulmate and celebrating the person who encourages you to be exactly who you are and loves you for it! Laura was and still is one of my greatest influences and we still share a deep love for glitter, Ren and Stimpy and Alanis Morissette.”
Q: Is there a type of character that you’ve always wanted to play?
C: “I’ve always wanted to play a no-nonsense character like Jennifer Garner in Alias or Uma Thurman in Kill Bill. I’d love to be able to learn fight sequences and feel like my own bodyguard. I never feel more powerful than when I’m in a boxing class or my brother is teaching me self-defense moves!”
Q: When not on screen, what are some of your favorite things to do?
C: “I love to go on random adventures, eat any and every french fry, listen to music, hula hoop, roller skate or dance whenever and wherever I can get away with it (if you’re lucky, you can find me dancing down grocery store aisles throughout the greater Los Angeles area).”
Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?
C: “Mostly on Instagram and Twitter. I generally post strange thoughts and discoveries and things that bring me joy, but I’ll always post when there’s something you can catch me in!”
