This country music star’s second home is the charts!
The independent artist is back with a brand new single. He has reached #1 on the Itunes charts, performed at the Grand Ole Opry, and has even hit the music milestone of having over 100M streams on his music. And that’s just Spotify alone!
We talked with Austin on all things music journey, Garth Brooks, and new single “Wet Dream”.
Q: When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
A: “I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in music when I was 18 years old. I was sitting in my dorm room in Santa Barbara and I was one of the only people there because I was playing baseball. I picked up my guitar and started to play some chords and sing some songs, and realized how much I had missed it. At that moment my life shifted, and the thought of moving to Nashville began to creep into my mind. Baseball was no longer fun, school began to seem overwhelming, and it’s truly a feeling I can’t describe. It was as if God was telling me “AUSTIN YOU HAVE TO MOVE TO NASHVILLE.” A place I had never been. A part of the country I had never stepped foot in. For some reason, God wanted me in Nashville. I followed that voice and I’m so glad I did.”
Q: What has been your favorite music release so far and why?
A: “My favorite release so far has been “Town Home.” This song was 100% released because of the success it had on TikTok. As an independent artist, I think it’s so cool that I can put music out as quickly as I need, and as quickly as my fans want it. The day I release the song I was in Arizona with my family. It went number one on iTunes and I was with them when it happened. I cried, I laughed, and after a really tough year, I was able to find some joy. I was ready to give up on music but this song showed me that I needed to keep going.”
Q: What has been your reaction to receiving over 100M+ streams on your music?
A: “Like I said earlier, I am an independent artist. I take a lot of pride in that. To be able to achieve a number like 100 million is truly unbelievable. I never thought that my music would reach this many people and I never thought that I would be able to do this without a label. I hope that my success brings hope to the artist that moves to town with nothing but a dream. I moved to town with $650 and that was just enough to pay my first month’s rent. If I can do it, anybody can.”
Q: How is the music scene in Nashville different than your start in Phoenix?
A: “To be honest with you I’m not really sure. I moved to San Diego when I was a freshman in high school. Even in San Diego, I didn’t play much music. I played a little bit in church but that was the most exposure I got to the music scene. But with that said, I think that everybody is the best musician in their hometown when they move to Nashville. This town is truly humbling with how much talent there is. We’re so lucky to have so many venues that allow us to play original music. Nashville has become my home and I feel so lucky to call Nashville home.”
Q: If you could feature on a song with any artist, who would it be and why?
A: “There are so many artists that I would love to feature on a song with. It would be unbelievable to feature with Diplo or somebody in the EDM scene. However, I think the ultimate dream would be to sing a song with my hero Garth Brooks. He hasn’t done a song with a male artist in a long time so I think it’s about time he does one with me haha!”
Q: What was your experience at the Grand Ole Opry like?
A: “Playing the Grand Ole Opry was one of the most unbelievable nights of my life. Not only was my 95-year-old great grandfather there, but I was also surrounded by all of my closest friends and family. For me, it felt as if I was finally accepted into the country music family. That entire night was a blur, but one of the highlights of the night was being able to go back to the steakhouse I used to work at when I first moved to town to celebrate my Opry debut.”
Q: What are your biggest goals for your career?
A: “I love entertaining. I love live shows and performing my music. So for me, Entertainer of the Year would be the ultimate achievement. I’ve always said Entertainer of the Year is an award that would mean so much to me as an artist because it’s what I love most about being a country artist. I know someday I will hold up that award so you better save this interview as proof. “
Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?
A: “You can follow me on Instagram, and TikTok @austinburkemusic. Twitter is @theburkekid and Facebook is Austin Burke.”
